How about a nice cold Jax beer from the Golden Eagle?

Any big plans for the weekend? I am hoping to go to an air show Friday evening and/or Saturday, but the weather is absolutely not cooperating. The Central Texas Air Show in Temple has a Friday evening event that I’ve never been able to attend because I’ve always had a gig out of town the same weekend in May for the last 20 years. This is the first year I can go, and it’s probably going to be storming. And so it goes.

While doing a little searching on that Golden Eagle Bar photo, which was taken in 1939 in Belle Glade , Florida , I found this photo on a Reddit thread that somebody had colorized. Wouldn’t you know it, but there’s the Golden Eagle in the background. Neat. I don’t know enough about these vintage cars to say if this color photo is the same time or later, but I’m guessing it might be a bit later.

I’m disappointed I can’t find this one. While some of those buildings might have been torn down, it seems unlikely that all of them would have been, especially since two-story buildings seem less likely to get town down. There are some big gaps and a huge Goodwill store in the part of the main street (W Ave A) that has the most similar buildings though, so who knows.

Also man, downtown Belle Glade looks depressed:
