I want to take one of these:
And then get my dirty paws on one of these:
And make it sound like this:
Maybe even throw one of these on it:
Because why not?

You’d be missing a cylinder

I am 100% for this idea as long as you start with a Fiero instead.

But I’d be gaining... less mass? I dunno.
I just like the way the VR5 sounds, kind of like a V10.

Didn’t the old
VR engines have cast-iron blocks? Those would be heavier than an aluminum V6.

of COURSE you’d throw in one of those! what kind of modern car doesn’t have an alternator?

You are correct, I just looked that up.
But its a physically smaller casting, has one less cylinder, so it’s hard to say without offical specs if it’s a lighter block or not.
Also, I don’t think VW was doing this back then, but lately some manufacturers have been going back to CGI (Compacted Graphite-Iron) blocks because, when properly designed, they can be just as light as an aluminum block.

Surely you could find a ratty auto non-supercharged AW11 to work with. Same for the VR5.
What’s the problem?

AW11 is not a problem, but VR5s were not sold in the US. Though Im sure I could import one.
