This is a Ford Edge, made by them in Canada and now offered to European buyers as an upmarket and bigger alternative to the Kuga (Escape).
I’ve been looking up statistics, as you do. Just ten Edges were sold by Ford in Ireland in Q1 2018.
So, how did it do in Q1 2019? Sold in the dozens? Hundreds? Er, no. None. Nil Nothing. Not a one.
Before you ask, it’s because it’s much too expensive and is a five seater in a segment of the market where seven seats are expected.
Ford’s hope was to sell 200 in 2017, its first full year of sale. They managed just 35 and it’s been downhill ever since.
Goodbye, Edge. It’s been nice never knowing you.

They seem to sell pretty well in the USA.

Meanwhile in the US:

That’s the market they’re intended for....Ford are also going to have a go with the even bigger and dearer Explorer, although only in lhd markets. Good luck with that!

Meanwhile....in Australia, it is known as Endura because Toyota have the Edge label with respect to cars here and wouldn’t sell it to Ford even though they aren’t using it at the moment.
Even with a different name... it's not going well here either.

China too. China even gets a 3-row Edge which isn’t sold anywhere else.

Meanwhile they sold less than 10,000 in Europe in the whole of 2018.

They don’t sell many in the U.K. either.
Nobody looks at Ford's when they are looking for a car in the large SUV segment.

It’s also boring and bland and an Edge.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

It’s a very bloated “car” for sure. I can see the Kuga being much more practical for most people.
But in the US of A land of the large, people just buy the biggest thing they can afford and call that luxury

Could be worse... GM might have sent over the Equinox.
Bleh.

Sounds like how the Jeep Renegade sells in Canada. Pretty much every other market they’ve sold like mad, but the story’s quite different here;
Compared to the Qashqai (which is actually almost the same price, despite being a bit bigger);
The Edge doesn’t do really WELL, but it also doesn’t do badly either. People buy them in around the same numbers as people buy the Highlander or Pilot.

That would surely do well elsewhere. Wonder why they don’t make it more widely available?

Europe gets its 3-row platform mates Galaxy and S-Max, while North America has the 3-row Explorer and .au has the 3-row Everest.

No they couldn’t. GM retreated from Europe in 2017 as they weren’t able to be competitive . They have no presence in Europe any more, except for some niche ‘dealers’ who might theoretically offer (as in: sell 1 a year ) the Corvette.

They sold a grand total of 46 in the Netherlands in 2018. 2017 was their best year, with 47. 2019 so far: 1.
Ford sold 25k vehicles in the Netherlands in 2018.
Like you mentioned; it’s too big (and too expensive to run) for a 5-seater with zero prestige and a bland look . As a vehicle it makes no sense really. If you want a 5 seater crossover you get the Kuga/Escape, if you want space you get the Focus wagon, if you want comfort or a nice interior you don’t get a Ford. So why get the Edge? What’s the target demographic? I’m not really seeing it.

The Galaxy and S-Max are minivans though. Sure, in its core the current Explorer is as a minivan as well, but the image is different. It’s an ‘SUV’ . Image is important in today’s market.
