Family pic, Brother, me, Dad..
Dad’s 1996 Camry had the timing belt changed last weekend, mechanic said the only one he’s seen worse was in parts on the bottom of the engine tray..
Pretty crinkly.
Toyota Time.
It’s good for another 100k km now..

5S-FE or 1MZ-FE? Either way, both were non-interference at that point, which is a good thing in that case.

1MZ-FE, not interference- but still a pain if it lets go on the side of the road..
This is My Dad’s dream car, he toiled away in company car Corollas while pining for the V6 Camry.. Now in his retirement he had a chance to get a new daily driver he wanted, and went ‘backwards’ from his 2006 Sentra to this low km shiny example of beige and gold..
It’s in pretty good shape, and gets washed and waxed within an inch of it
s life..

That’s a heck of a belt. Plus as it appears dry, that is a heck of a good cam and crank seal set by toyota..........

They’re coming to visit this weekend, it’s got a leaking steering rack that likes to mark it’s spot, otherwise it’s pretty tip-top.
It came from parents of our family friends. It lived in a garage and was driven once a week to church. When they replaced it with an SUV it was moved outside and parked in a carport.
My Dad had his eye on it for a long time, and when he retired and didn’t need a high mile work car anymore he offered to take it out of their yard.
Everyone was happy and he’s got a new-old-car to drive around. They would probably be better off getting something a little newer to drive, but they don’t travel far and it scoots along pretty well. I think parts will eventually run out on him, but he’s enjoying it so far.
To be fair his truck is also a 96;
