You sure that’s not the rare BMW minivan?

In great shape. And it’s the longer wheel base. Highly unlikely it has a stick though...

I didn’t want to get “that” close, but then again I thought about leaving a note to contact me if they wanted to sell it.....

This photo was actually taken 30 years ago.

Whoa! That’s super rare these days!

The open Sears behind it, is becoming almost as rare.

A friend of mine’s mom had one of these LWB AWDs new back in the day, I remember it well. Another friend’s family had an Aerostar conversion van, those are rare now.

These pop up on local CL now and then. Several weeks ago a very low mileage later run sport model with the body cladding showed up, Canada spec car (these sold by the boatload in Canada for some reason) with maybe 50K on it, pristine, wanted 4 or 5K for it.

Here’s an acceptable looking one for sale locally:

And a manual across the border, probably from points east by the rust:

Might be worth it, cars of that age here, if local, virtually do not rust, as in zero rust.  Or maybe find a cheap transporter, might be worth it.

I’m trying to remember the last time I was in a Sears.  I know it has to have happened sometime in the last decade.

I checked into transporting a while back when I found a clean Turbo Voyager over there, it was going to cost around $1200 to have it shipped.

I’d pay that if it meant no underbody rot and probably nicer paint, too.

I’ve been as recently as a couple years ago, for tools.

Sears is headquartered near where I live. in 2017 they tore down their store at a fawn-say mall nearby, to rebuild the entire building from scratch. They spent gobs of money to rebuild it as their new flagship store, the new direction for the brand. They got it open in time for the 2018 holidays.

It’s already scheduled to close. I need to go check it out before they shutter it. I’m curious to see what they did with it.

I give Sears/K-Mart 3-years before they cease to exist.

Ha!  I know.  Just the likelihood of these two things looking this good together in one photo today is so low.

Come to think of it, I went to the local mall maybe three or four years ago (the mall is not my thing) and I think I walked through sears from the parking lot. I remember thinking it felt like stepping back into 1999. I don’t think I’ve been in a Kmart since the 90's, and there aren’t any open in my area.

Back in my wrench turning days, I went to Sear’s occasionally to warranty tools. Of course, most of the stuff I bought once I started turning wrenches for a paycheck was Snap-On/Matco quality stuff, but I continued to use a lot of the Craftsman stuff that I had already owned and warranty them as they broke. The trick was to always find the hot girl working in the tool area. She’d warranty anything.

Sears in 1999 was basically like stepping into 1983.

Funny story about K-Mart. When I first moved to the town I live in, there was a “Sears Hometown” really close by. It was an ex-K-Mart, and I loved it because it was relatively small and easy to get to, but it had a pretty good sized tool department.

After a few years, Sears decided to remodel it and turn it back into a K-Mart. They spent a bunch of money, and for all their effort, when you talked in ... it was like walking into 1978. They took all the tools away except for one aisle, so I stopped going there. About once a year I would forget why I hated the place, and go try and buy something there. It always took so long to check out, that I’d vow never to go back again. Often times abandoning whatever I was trying to buy. Then about a year later, I’d forget again and do it all over.

It shut down a couple years ago.  I honestly have no idea where an open K-Mart might be, not that I would ever go there anyways.

Underbody rot doesn’t seem to be an issue with the early Caravan/Voyagers, mostly rocker/door rust. I can buy repair panels for about $200. So repair panels + paint cost me less then shipping, so for me it’s a hard sell to spend $1200 + the vehicle to get a rust free one as they all need paint thanks to 80-90s paint quality.

I suppose those are good points if it is going to be a DD and will receive wear and tear anyway. Cars of this age are already to the point where if I was seeking one, I would be preserving it in some way. M ost people probably wouldn’t be going that far.  I am also in an area where more than the smallest bubble scares me away.

I would be buying it to drive and I have plenty of experience doing body work, so having to repair some mild rust isn’t a big deal to me as long as the structure is good.

Yeah, in your neck of the woods, rust repair is annual maintenance, like changing tires :)
