I bought new human tires, I kinda think they are the equivalent of light duty offroad tires. Technically hiking shoes but lightweight. Waterprooof and well made it seems. My new dog walking trail shoes. Buffer puppy pic with cherry blossoms all around her

Fine enough. We had a late night picking up my daughter from the airport, so we got a late start. I’m spending as much of the day outside as I can. I finished the lawn and fence repairs. Now I have some maintenance work on one of the French drains and if I have some time, some rust treatment on the trailer. Overall, a good day.

Just got back to Stoon, picked up some photos I had printed, and tonight I’m treating my girlfriend to sushi for being done another year of school.
Normally with hiking stuff I'd go for something with a bit more ankle support, but lightweight should be nice for longer hikes.

Cooked enough chicken curry to last me the next 3 4 days at least, I’ve eaten too much of it now . Its raining outside. I’ve to adjust the parking brake on the Mini but I’m too lethargic right now, I’ll take a nap now.

i love my human tires (mine are meindl) fantabulous shoes especially on trails.... but i have found a serious flaw in mine... ive never owned a pair of shoes with less grip on wet streets than these (and im including tourist trap sandals in that assesment) bit of rain plus cobblestones... oh yeah.. farscy be sliding everywhere (and yet they will happily grip on a muddy slope and ice dont bother em none)
wierd
anyhoo... days gone fine.. im still enjoying being a bit too full from me rack of ribs n chips earlier

I’ve been backpacking using “barefoot ” trail running shoes for years now. Merrell trail gloves are my favorite. I’m talking anywhere from 5-25+ mile hikes with a loadout and water for multiple nights. Biggest negative is lack of protection if you whack your foot on a boulder. Pretty sure I put a crack in my foot from when backpacking into the Waimea Canyon last summer.
You have to work up to them for backpacking duty , though, or you’re liable to snap an ankle.
I’ve thought about eventually getting good boots, but my feet/ankles/knees are still going strong. One benefit of being short.

Going swimmingly. Haven’t done a single productive thing other than eating breakfast and lunch.
Going to watch the T ragedy of Thanos later tonight and ponder about the ramifications of a post Thanos Earth.

How are they for durability? I like lighter running shoes for shorter hikes, but they’ll be toast—holes at the toes— after two months so I normally stick to boots

Leg day.
I’m going to wash the Miata, and if you rain doesn’t visit I’ll wax it too. After that... I’m starting an online calculus refresher course. Woo-hoo

It’s been a good one, for sure. Got up and went to the gym, had a great breakfast, squeezed in a nice drive and a cigar, and now I'm having a late, leisurely lunch. I think I might take doggo to the park soon.

I took my son to his soccer game today. Then got the Volvo washed. It’s beautiful here, mid 60‘s sunny and breezy. Made a run to the parts store in the '83 Caprice Wagon where I didn’t find what I needed, but I did run into a good friend who has been having some health issues, so it was good to see him out and about. Made Mac and cheese with chick en in it for dinner and now I’m going to watch a soccer game I recorded, play some board games with the kiddo and then get a good night’s sleep.

The Merrells seem to hold up well. They have a laminated toe which helps with durability. I get about nine months out of them, and thats hiking mostly in the desert where the rock is like sandpaper. I bought this pair last summer, and they’re just about done. The soles are pretty worn, but they still stuck to my roof while doing some maintenance yesterday. I started out with the 1st gen New Balance barefoot runners, but they switched them up and the new ones suck. This is the second or third generation of the Merrells and they’re still a great shoe for hiking or trail running. Simple, light and tough. Also, you can find them for $80.

I took the Ozz man to Cars n Coffee this morning, then came back and intended to work on my paper all day. I got a lot done on it but then my wife wanted to work in the yard, which meant that I essentially had to because she's not exactly good with manual tasks. But now Im drinking a Singha at our local Thai joint, so life is good.

Saturday was flat out. Cut some firewood out of the dump pile for the house. Finished cleaning up the camper trailer after a few days out and a long sit. Finished the roof plumbing on the chook shed (only the back wall and roost floor to do there before it can be occupied). Marked out a new garden bed to cover a bit of spoiled , rubbish filled ground. Busy. Now onto Sunday...which has already started!

S aw Endgame this morning - solid, they did a good job. I had a pair of Solomons similar to that, (low, lightweight hiker) , super nice shoe but they ended up being a bit narrow for my slab of a foot... I usually have to stay with New Balance or Merrell.

It’s been a good day. We took Ruby to an event sponsored by the rescue where we got her. They needed people to bring dogs because right now they don’t have any adoptable dogs available.
Then we took her to meet my grandparents. It was nice because my grandfather really misses having a dog around, but he realizes he wouldn’t be able to take care of one.

Worked till 12, then drove an hour and a half to look at a car I didn’t buy, then spent 7 hours in 17mph Interstate traffic through Virginia and Maryland up to my parents’ house for the rest of the weekend.
