Sure, this new scissor jack that I bought “PROFESSIONAL THICKENING JACK” may not speak English, but I’m sure it’s fine in a pinch. I wanted to put something in the Exocet in case of Emergency and these are pretty light. BUT GOOD GOLLY THAT’S THAT SOME TERRIBLE TRANSLATION! It reads like a horrible poem.

How does this still keep happening.

Surely someone around the jack manufacturing company knows English or knows someone who is English or someone who knows English.

Hell, take it to a language school and say,'I'll give you a free jack if you could translate this properly'.

Seriously - even just using Google Translate would work better. This is the 2nd time in 2 days I’ve opened up something from China and had this happen. The wireless TPMS sensors that I bought were almost just as bad. They also used “u” instead of “you”. I did manage to figure out how to get them over to PSI and degrees F (from bar and C) but no thanks to the instructions.

Terrible translation, but I dig the cadence of the first part.

I can’t wait to use these lines on my girlfriend .

“Hey baby, want to use my professional thickening scissor jack? Amount of oil or great lubrication can make when used more smoothly. Yeah girl, u don’t exceed the limit of weight.”

Bar and °C aren't a spelling or grammar mistake though...

How many people do you know who are fluent at Mandarin?

It keeps happening because there’s no real economic incentive. Most people, looking at two functionally identical tools, won’t pick one that costs $5 more because the English is better.

Now, if you could easily see how terrible the manual is inside the box, and you actually need it, then it would be worth it, but who reads tool manuals?

How many people do you know who are fluent at Mandarin?

Five. One is from China and four are from Hong Kong. But they aren’t selling tools to China.

It keeps happening because there’s no real economic incentive.........won’t pick one that costs $5 more because the English is better.

I do and several others I know do, especially it’s come from a country (not China) that is known for it’s education system and how well it’s population also speak English as a second language. But there are also some that have bad English and they are an English speaking country.

but who reads tool manuals?

I’d say half the people I know. Especially if it’s something that’ll be used on something I/they hold special/great expense (ie car, house, etc...) or if there is a risk to life if not operated or maintained properly .

Definitely some hyperbole on my part, but l ook at Nick, happy with his purchase. Why shouldn’t he be? Why should that manufacturer spend money on a better translation, especially when they won’t know for certain that it’s really better?

there are plenty of people who would look at that, laugh, and say “no way am I buying that cheap piece of junk.” China has been a part of the global economy for a long time now, and there are plenty of folks in China who speak English. I’ve worked with several China-based suppliers; when we’ve had meetings and design reviews they’ve had at least one or two people present who were fluent in English and could translate when needed.

If you’re a company looking to sell to other markets, it’s a bad look if you don’t even bother to spend the relative pittance to have someone- even someone who has ESL- to make sure the translation is at least intelligible. Like, if they weren’t willing to do even that, how many other corners did they cut? “Eh, we don’t need all of those welds. Chabuduo.”

Given the number of people who still actively use Amazon for all their shopping, despite the quality problems, counterfeiting, fake reviews , etc, I don’t blame foreign manufacturers for believing that they can do the bare minimum and still sell plenty of their products.

Don’t laugh we may all be talking like this in 80 to a 100 years from now.

I just got a lamp with very similar language but yours is worse. My wife who teaches inner city kids said that her students text messages looked the same.

Ye’, no worries.

The only thing for me is, if it's important enough to put in writing, it's important enough to be written correctly. Especially if it's a warning.
