I believe it’s Belgian, ca. 1840s/1850s, but there are absolutely no markings of any kind. A few cosmetic blemishes, but seems to be in working order. For $20, why not?

I probably wouldn't fire that.

Very cool. I probably wouldn’t fire that without having had a smith give it a look over first. From my C&R days, I feel fine looking over WWI and WWII era stuff and making a determination as to whether I’m willing to shoot ‘em or not, but I don’t think I’d do it myself on something like that.

That could have ended a lot worse.

Not quite understanding what I’m seeing. Is it a flintlock that was converted to caps???

If you do decide to fire it, can I call dibs on one of the fingers you lose? I think it would make a great pendant for a necklace, and mother’s day is right around the corner.

For realsies though, cool wall-hanger piece for $20.

Yes, actually. Now I need to find another one like that.

I had thought it was too late for flintlock, but I see what you mean about the way the hammer fits, does look kind of like a conversion. Also could have been assembled from parts from different sources.

Yup. Armies (Soviet and Wehrmacht) have been known to salt ammo stashes that had to be left behind with cartridges that were booby trapped either by filling with PETN or swaging the cartridge with a ball bearing inside so as to create a catastrophic failure when fired. I think we even did this in Vietnam. Put just enough faulty rounds in the lot so the enemy does not fully trust the ammo but may keep using it , but not so many that they know the entire lot is bad.
