my boss has someone working part time from home using Revit. She can’ t finish the project so its been converted to AutoCAD and i’m fixing all the issues that have been found during the final check. its obnoxious working in a file I didn’ t create and on top of that its from another program and all wacky.

Ugh!

I need to learn Revit.

Well, I don’t need to, but I want to.  I feel like a dinosaur not knowing Inventor or Revit.

Yeah, I would say that’s a much more pressing matter for you.

Inventor is great and terrible all at once. I much prefer Solidworks tbh and so do most people I know.

Revit.... that program is the bane of my existence. It is fantastic for quite a few things but can be tremendously frustrating for others. It needs some serious overhauls to make it worthwhile to anyone other than architects in my industry.

I got to play with it for a bit about a decade ago, it seemed good. I have access to Inventor though, but not Solidworks.

I work in MEP design so after the architect designs the space we are the ones who make it function. For each of our contracts we give the option of working with Revit and a lot of the time if the architect is using Revit we will follow suit . The problem I have is that I know of only one contractor in NYC who also uses R evit. Th e end result is usually just 2-D drawings with all the effort of getting everything to jive in a 3-D space . There are a lot of steps you need to take to make thousands of individual parts, connections and equipment connect and function together. It gets more complicated on our side as we have a minimum of mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, plumbing and sprinkler which needs to be coordinated and each individual item for each trade needs to be on the right workset for each trade to see exactly what they need from others . My company also has an IT/Security/AV/Telecom division so if you want a one stop shop of everything we can provide that too which needs further coordination of trades. We also provide construction administration, and LEED certification support (thanks for the added buisness De Blasio!). Revit has potential but it lacks some features/flexibility that can really bog down production.
