I recently found a Sonos Play:3 speaker that I bought a while back at the Goodwill Outlet for a couple of bucks, probably no more than $3-4 . I plugged it into my network and set it up and it all seems to work properly, but I don’t know what the purpose of this device actually is. Can someone here edumacate me on what this thing is supposed to do and why it’s supposedly the greatest thing since sliced bread?

I’ll give you $5 for it. you make profit!
They are just pretty nice wireless speakers. One of my friends, who used to work at Best Buy Magnolia (is that still a thing?) had a bunch of their speakers and, I don’t know if they still make these, but wireless drivers you could attach to existing speakers. He had them all over his house and had a media server and some app on his phone and he could play music in any room in his house. It was actually pretty slick.

Its for rich people to know that you’re rich too.
Nifty, but I don’t like how they mess with airplay

Dang. You’re onto me!
I actually have a really nice Klipsch system I bought for like $200 on CL because it “didn’t sound very good.” I got home and noticed the cabs all rattled; I took them apart and found that the previous owners kids had shoved crap inside of them. Somehow I pulled an entire curtain rod out of one! Also many matchbox cars, pingpong balls, etc.

What system do you have? I’m a self-proclaimed Klipsch fanboi and have given them too much of my money. I wish I was able to luck into a CL deal but in my experience, most people hang onto their equipment for a long time.

Its just reference series stuff - front towers, center, and bookshelf rears. I think the sub (10") is giving up the ghost. Its pretty entry level stuff as far as Klipsch goes, though still a step up from the Promedia HTIB stuff (which I still think is good as far as HTIBs go).
I'm not a huge audiophile, but I do secretly long to own a set of Klipschorns. One of these days...

I grew up with a pair of Cornwalls my mom bought when she was in the military. So I was doomed from an early age haha
I just have reference floor speakers and bookshelfs (for surround) with a 15" Dayton audio sub (if you ever have time, look up the labhorns designed by Danley. We used these in live sound in a past life. two horn loaded Dayton 12's that hit huge numbers).
My setup is way too much for my small environment, but I can hit ear damaging levels without any of the equipment sweating and way before anything distorts.
I really really wanted a pair of cornwalls or even fortes for myself. S
omething built like a brick shithouse and would last a lifetime. E
nd of the day though, I got a pretty good deal on my RF 28s and they are more than I need, so no regrets haha
