This has popped up on the local Craigslist. Confirmed stick shift too. What’s Oppo think? Link in comments; Kinja crops the mobile editor such that I can’t paste on a new line :/

Nice looking, but I wouldn’t pay 14k for it.

Wow, I didn’t even know there was a non-M version of the Coupe.

The non-M is the sweet spot since it *allegedly* doesn’t come with as much ///Maintenance cost.

How much does a set of style 32s cost? Could buy a cheaper Z3 and add the wheels for the same effect.

Z3 coupes don’t get much cheaper than that. Even non Ms

Oppo taught me this lesson. I posted a lovely orange one once and was shocked it was so cheap, only to have other Oppos inform me that it was cheap because it was a non M

Looks good, but I found the driving dynamics to be snooze-inducing. CP for me.
As for the annoying mobile text cut-off bug (which has been around for quite a while now...) you can just post the link at the end of your current line of text. It will automatically turn into a link below!

Not sure, I’ve seen a few for around 10k.

I mean, this is mind-blowing to me. For all these years, I’ve always referred to them as “The M Coupe” and only said “Z3 Coupe” for people who needed an explanation.

$14k doesn’t sound crazy to me. These hardtops are very desirable. The price might be about right, depending on which engine, mileage, and condition.

All the boneheads lamenting price forget that this is a 2001-2002 variant, with the better engine (true in both M and non-M form). These things are not free, but certainly could knock $2K off given the condition of the car - TLC needed.
This will be snatched up within the week unless it has some hidden stories.

You found it to be snooze inducing? I don’t think you drove it properly lol or there was something wrong with it

I have one and theyre very reliable as long as you get the diff mount area reinforced and take care of the cooling system every 75-100k miles. I briefly considered style 32s for mine but went with DS1s from an E36 M3.
My dad had an E36 M3 new when I was very young and I always loved the wheels. I think they suit the car well
Also they share a lot of E30, E36, and E46 parts so the aftermarket is massive and unique. Tons of mods you can do to make the car even better than stock. I just installed coilovers on mine finally last night after 3 years lol. Got rid of the low h&r race springs and now the ride is comfy yet with less body roll and more stiff somehow. The h and r and bilsteins were super jarring on any sort of rough terrain.

Drove that, my Miata, a stock Miata, and a stock S2k back-to-back for awhile with a few friends. None of us went easy on any of the cars—and while I certainly didn’t hate the z3—it was my least favorite of the bunch. It was much softer and slower feeling t han the S2k and my Miata, and didn’t have the fun factor of a stock Miata. Lot less responsive too, with less communicative steering and a gearbox that just felt... Normal compared to the rest of the competition.
That said, it was very well-maintained and was a gorgeous shade of blue, with most of the chrome accents painted black. It looked amazing.
Oh and this was a z3 roadster, not the coupe if that makes a difference?

Oh and is there an LSD? If I recall correctly, we were driving a "base" model with a few options

The coup es, and I think all i6 z3s, came with LSDs

Depends on how base it was. The roadster came in 4 cylinder versions and with the smaller 6 ; the coupe only came with the bigger 6. It was stiffer than the roadster and some roadsters didn’t have the wider body(though I’m not sure if that reflected in wider/narrower track).

The roadsters def aren’t the same, I never would’ve gotten one aside from the M. Coupes all get the LSD, wide rear fenders, and the bigger inline six. 4 cylinder Z3s are hairdresser cars basically lol.
The it’s basically a combo of the e30, e36, and e46 engine so it’s the best of several eras in how it feels. The steering rack is actually one of the quickest on the market for it’s time with a very short turning radius and lots of other e30 and e36 guys upgrade to it.
The big thing with the coupes is they are 2.6 times more stiff.
I’m in the middle of installing coilovers right now

From a purely theoretical point of view, I am almost certain it will soonish be like this: the M Coupé is going to become a t r ue collector’s item and command stratospheric prices; and sooner or later the non-M Coupé w i l l surely keep b e i n g a little cheaper than the M version, but will be unattainable to most of us.
That’s what happened with 356s and air-cooled 911s.
If you like the Z3 Coupé so much, bear in mind that the prices for that body style are unlikely to go down from now on.

The 3-liter M54 Z3 is the best - effectively as quick as the S52 M version without the badge premium (most of the time).
