I use Torque Pro  I think it’s ugly and clunky but it can read codes and engine data, and reset codes. There’s a free version which has similar functionality, though strangely a different interface. You may as well try it.

Torque Pro with a Bluetooth adapter. I want to try Obdeleven though (2017 Jetta) ... if anybody has any experience with it I’m all ears.

For what kind of car?  If you just want general code / stat reading, I don’t mind Dashcommand or the free version of Torque. Depending on your vehicle, there’s a ton of specialty ones.

I use Torque. Even reads BMW codes.

There needs to be a better app than Torque Pro...but there isn’t

It would be great if they would let you tinker with the dials and gauges a little.  I think it needs a ground up redo for graphics but the backend is pretty solid.  NOTE: i do NOT want an overly graphic UI, I want plain, easy to read gauges that don’t look like trash.

Torque Pro here too. Like others have said, the interface isn’t great but it works.

Dash Command actually is very granular in what you can do with the display, but I am finding it to be unstable.

I thought dash command was too cheesy...and unstable.

That’s an interesting point. Pulling/resetting codes is not the deal, but rather, to be able to monitor fuel trims and such for my ‘97 Safari 4.3L because occasional Master Caution Light for unknown reasons.

For that, yeah definitely Torque / Torque Pro

Torque Pro seems like a significant improvement over DashCommand. Also, it logs, which may prove quite helpful. I have an intermittent situation where ECU will throw a code and engine idles rough. So I’ll drive and log and when and if it happens again, have some data to show my mechanic pal.

Torque Pro supports this (dunno about the free version). I was able to find a user-created theme that didn’t look like garbage, though it’s still nowhere near as readable as my iOS OBD app’s gauges.

And it logs. I’ll keep us posted. Thanks for the input.

I’ve created a theme thats okay, basic black on white without borders on the gauges.  Still not great.

IMO the main problem is that you can’t (at least I don’t know how to) customize the labels and ticks on  each dial individually. Check out what I was able to do on my iOS OBD app:

Sadly the only iOS-compatible Bluetooth OBD reader I was able to find (I don’t want a WiFi one) doesn’t work with my Volvo, so I bought an old Android phone recently just to use as a car monitor on road trips.

My main problem is the obsession with round gauges for a rectangle screen. Drives me crazy. this is kinda what mine looks like these days

Kinja'd!!!

its since been cleaned up a little.

Second Torqu Pro.  Also because I found it one time for $1.

Ah, I don’t mind the round dials so much. They’re a pretty good way to visually indicate the value , though I suppose you’d get most of the same utility (with a little less accuracy) from filling in on a rectangular path rather than a circular one, which would leave more room for other info.

I literally just downloaded T orque P ro last night, so I’m looking forward to spending an hour or two this weekend figuring out which PIDs my Volvo supports and setting up the dial screens. Which ones do you find most useful?

my cruiser is pretty limited in information so I only get so much. I find fuel trim, temps (all the ones I can get), battery voltage, obd speed (obvs), and average mpg are the ones I look at most. Maybe torque and hp estimates.

On the GX I can program in my transmission temperature which i did and is excellent to have.

What is “OBD Speed”?

Kinja'd!!! HammerheadFistpunch > Future Heap Owner

Kinja'd!!!1

just the speed from the computer.  Its important for me because the cruiser speedo is off and torque lets you correct for this to read accurate

Do you know where or how to find the logs that Torque Pro is supposed to be keeping?

did you ever find it? its a folder in the root directory called “torque logs”  they are .cvs

Thanks for checking back. Yes, I found the log files, but I still need to figure out how to display them. There’s some stuff on YouTube...

Today, I’m working on rooting an Android tablet so that I can run TorquePro on it. Then, in my fan, I’ll rig a mount for it...

Stay tuned...

what I found is just put them into a spreadsheet, since they are .cvs. Then you can graph as needed. Its not pretty but its there.
