Anyone heard of this?

I think a President Polk tried something like this.

Yes. This happened just down the road from me, so to speak. This is the problem when we start conflating military missions with law enforcement missions.

i think i saw mention of it over on splinter
all those troops around the border i guess its only a matter of time till someone gets triggerhappy and sets of a real shit storm

It gets really tricky when they don’t put the wall in the right place. Damn contractors.

I recall hearing this...but I think it was a standoff then the US troops withdrew. No one was disarmed.

And it worked like a charm.

I read about this the other day and didn’t think much of it. Sounds like a pretty typical South Korea/North Korea type of situation. Except for the fact that we don’t have a demilitarized border that was the result of a bloody (recent) war. Sounds like they just worked it out without much incident. You know, like normal, apolitical human beings do.
Turns out the issue was the wall/fence was well
inside
US territory, but the Mexicans thought the wall was
exactly
on the border. Seems reasonable enough to me. Not like they were stealing secrets.

It did!

You know the Russians eventually applied a sort of Blitz on the nazis

In an unmarked vehicle...
the Mexican army should be ashamed of itself: so should the American, its insane we don’t have enough cross country communication as to avoid stupid crap like this

Mexican media reports that both soldiers were disarmed

Also when you patrol a peace time border with the army...

In the same way you dump someone that cheated on you, yes.

Well, except for the fact that the river is the border. It’s pretty hard to miss.

Exactly. When all the high-level political posturing going on, I would expect most border patrols (military or civilian) to be on a first name basis with each other to help prevent situations like this.

They were probably just using Apple Maps for their GPS.

Maybe -most probably- they knew they were stepping into the US and they just didn’t care because in the worst case scenario those two men in camo in the unmarked truck are actually following the soldiers to try and kill them.

Specially if it’s one of the busiest borders in the planet.

Except that it’s really difficult to determine in some areas. For example:
Most of the water is in the intercepting drain and many people think that’s the river, not the sad excuse for a river which is the natural channel. What’s really funny is when you zoom into that image:
There’s a border patrol SUV , outside the border fence, still sitting in U.S. territory. The border here is actually east of the river because the river moved.

Sounds like the US soldiers followed protocol by giving up a weapon in order to deescalate the situation. Also sounds like there are six Mexican soldiers who skipped geography and orienteering class, as there’s a river that separates the two countries where this occured.

Not counting the whole War on Drugs, the US has been in state of war for almost eighteen years now.

The two US soldiers gave up their M9s in order to deescalate the situation. Sounds like a, “we know you guys are fucking lost, but take this so no one gets trigger happy.”

Not counting Nixon?
