A

at
44k miles for a 17

Wait wait wait...is this written in the 7th person?
Who is “he”? What about this older gentlemen? Victim of a carjacking? How did the grandkid get it? And then how did the owner get it from the grandkid? Another carjacking? Or i

There are
some weird listings that pop up on KSL. I look at the main page,
https://www.ksl.com/auto/
that shows newest non dealer listings down at the bottom way too much.

Swapping transmissions on Subies is quite a bit more involved than other vehicles. They usually use different ECUs (and sometimes completely different AWD systems) between the autos and the manuals, so you have to at least swap the harnesses over. I know easy is a relative term, but as far as tranny swaps go, I wouldn’t put Subies in the easy categorey.

I guess I never looked in to it other than an STi transmission swap which is a bit involved just becuase of DCCD, different axle lengths and hubs. I always figured it would just be out with the old in with the new and maybe change the transmission mount.

I was wondering why it was so cheap, then I read about it having an auto.

It looks like on the ‘02 it requires a harness swap, but that’s it. On some of the newer ones (08+) even the non STI swaps require quite a bit of swapping. I had a ‘13 Forester XT, and it’s AWD system was the same as the STI, just without the selectability. Swapping it to a manual Forester transmission would have been a similar ordeal to your STI swap, but I’d have a shittier AWD system. Swapping it to an STI manual would have been pretty involved as well.
Everyone who bought auto turbo Subarus when a manual was available should be banned from buying cars.
