I had an 02 Accord, V6, auto. I loved that car, but those transmissions are n otorious for not lasting.

Biggest crack pipe ever. These have some of the worst automatic transmissions ever made.

Oh so those were also the years with problems. I have read about 2004 Honda/Acura models having a lot of problems.

This should go in a museum, actually

To display one of Honda's biggest mistakes, the cursed automatic here

That whole generation is awful as far as the auto V6s go. But everything else about that car was fantastic.

Are they the same transmissions that were put in the 3.2TL of the same period?

I think that generation of Hondas are just plain bad with transmissions. Lots of horror stories with that year of Civic/ELs as well. Friend’s EL went through 3 transmissions until he gave up and got a RAV4.

I’m not sure. The Accord had a 3.0L V6 so the engines were similar but not the same.

It's funny what a difference a year makes. My 2002 Accord V6 auto had a garbage transmission. My 2003 Civic with an auto is still being driven by my brother as it nears 200k miles. Still the original trans.

CP in D Major!

Seriously tho I had a co-worker with a 2001 Acura CL Type S, between the SRS malfunctions and a transmission at 60k he really didn’t have good luck with that car. But the VTEC in the Acura was hilariously fun.

Crack pipe. You could buy so many other, better cars for the money.

In my opinion super low miles didn’t really add value to a car. It just means it’ll have problems from not being driven.

I’d say this is a 6,000 dollar car max. Here’s an 04 with 110k for 5,000 . Which I’d rather buy. I’d take a driven car over one that basically  sat for 17 years any day ://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/ctd/d/2004-hondaaccord-ex-2dr-coupe-sunroof/6869377443.html

12,000+ for an 17-18 year old Honda? I don't care how few miles. If it's not an nsx, then CP

I owned one for about 5 years. I can confirm they were great cars let down by a fragile transmission. Best automatic climate control I’ve ever had , hands down. Mine also had a habit of chewing through ABS and SRS sensors, but that might not have been the car’s fault.

I sold it in 2009 for $3,000 with about 120k miles on it and a failing transmission. I’d say CP. They were cool cars, but hardly collectors items.

Was gonna say, isn’t that the 5 speed auto that’s sort of explodey?

Then again, a friend of mine has one with a five speed auto that’s at 230k ish and still shifts good.

I have no nostalgia for these, so I'd never pay five figures for a 17 year old Accord. Low miles doesn't necessarily mean collectible.

$12,400 for 17 year old Honda?! This ain’t BaT. Yeah, right. Just because it has 6,000 miles doesn’t make this some perfect car. Maybe for 1/2 that, and make sure the transmission fluid has been changed, I’d consider it, as I’m in the market for a newer car. But for what their asking, there are far newer cars that are better choices.

Amen, and those sorts of problems pop up almost immediately and without remorse when you start driving a car like that regularly.

yup. My Galant VR-4 suffered from this greatly. It had 150,000 miles but 130,00 of those were put on from 91-02. So it had hardly been driven, or maintained in the 13 years before I got it

My ranger sat for what I’m guessing was 2 plus years and I’ve hit on just about every “this car was neglected for a long time” issue that exists. Luckily things are cheap for the Ranger.

My M3 never gave me any trouble as a daily driver. It has clocked less than 1000 miles per year the last 3 or 4 years and I have put at least 3k into it since then, and will be lucky to get away for less than 2 when I take it in Monday night.

These have a nice rear end profile, but CP, not Honda’s finest hour.

The black cars also seem to often suffer from failing paint/clearcoat , even in mild climates.

A friend of mine had a new style 03 V6 coupe.  Transmission failed at ~60K, replaced under warranty, always seemed to make a whining noise after that.  He miled it up to around 140-150K, by that time it had a host of electrical gremlins (dash lights and working radio, who wants that?).

1998 to 2002 (6th gen) were the bad years. Especially with 2nd gen TLs and the 3.2L. The 2.3l trans were bullet proof as they fixed that issue from the previous 5th gen. That continued in 2003 when the next gen was launched and sorted the transmissions out. (04 for TL) But t he big leap across the board was 2005. That is when all transmission woes for the Pilot and Odyssey were figured out as well.

When I was in Auto tech school one of the guys a year ahead of me had an 01 Accord and he bragged about the NSX(style)  lights more than once. I would have made fun of him but I drove a Camry so I couldn’t say much
