Kinja'd!!!

I’m going to Prague for work on Friday and will have a couple of days to look around. Anyone been before? Recommendations? There are some obvious historical sites and there is a KGB museum.

A co-worker of mine went there on vacation recently. I’ll ask tomorrow for recommendations.

In Soviet Prauge, KGB tours you.

Beautiful city with lots of historical buildings and sites. Make sure you drink lots of Urquell while you’re there. My brother and I drank absinthe  at a place called Hemingway Bar which was pretty cool.

There are a bunch of fun videos on the Honest Guide Prauge’s channel – Prague in 1 minute -> . My favorite videos were the ones on local food/restaurants as I am a bit of a foodie. I really liked the one sided sandwiches that they have at the bakeries/restaurants called Chlebíky. This youtuber often highlights frugal options which might not be the best for a business traveler.

The big things to watch out for are Taxis will very often try to scam riders by “forgetting” to turn the meter on so it is best to make sure they agree to the fixed fare to the city (30Euro) or use Uber (~20 Euro). When using cash, be careful that you get the Czech Crown back, sometimes scammers will try to give you change, or exchange Dollars in return for the Belarus Ruble (no longer in circulation).

It was a great city.

Have a fun trip!

Was there for a few days this summer. Beautiful city. The standard tourist spots worked pretty well. Did the communism museum or whatever, I’m not sure I’d go again, tells the story, but didn’t have a lot of artifacts that jump out.

Food and drink is good and cheap, so leave time for that.

Stay somewhere close enough to walk around at night as well, the castle lit up and looming over the river is powerful at night.

The work hotel is in the middle but f everything and we got an Airbnb for the bonus nights in the old part of town.  Should be right there.

Heard that too.  Will likely try more than I should.

Lived there for 6 months, absolutely beautiful city.

Don’t fear the subway, it’s relatively easy to navigate and can get you anywhere quickly (but it closes at night, so be aware of that).

get you some svíková na smetan w/ houskové knedlíky ( it’s delicious)

Prague Castle ( Pražský hrad) is iconic and very pretty.

Old Town Square

Wenceslas Square

Definitely cross Charles Bridge

Lokal Dlouhaaa is a fun place to eat (big beer hall, but relaxed and not intimidating)

Letná Park overlooking downtown is a perfect picnic spot. (no open container laws, take some beer/wine and a baguette w/ some brie or any soft cheese)

Divoká Šárka is an underrated ge m of a park to go for a walk in.

If you have any specific interests let me know.

Thanks for the notes. Particularly about the beer hall. My wife likes beer!

Here’s what I’ve gotten from my friend as top highlights :

Astronomical clock

Walk to the Charles and see the famous old bridge, optionally walking through the Jewish quarter which has very old cool buildings (although some are reproductions).

Sex toy museum (I very much have no wish to know anything more about this one).

Prague Castle.

Recommended tour company: Premiant City Tour, info@premiant.cz

There are a lot of tour companies and guides out there, too, and I’ve had good experiences with them. There are a ton of themed ones and some are at night.

WWII, ghosts, the castle at night, etc.

The Astronomical Clock was one of the coolest things. Wenceslas Square is somewhat interesting but can be skipped if one is prioritizing.

Oh and the subway system is really cool. I recommend riding it at least once. It’s very cheap and efficient, but moreover, it’s very pretty inside, and the cars are bright red and look cool too.

Very safe city. Lots of good lounges, bars, restaurants, etc. I really liked an upscale lounge called The Alchemist.

Just walking around seeing everything is fun. The zoo is good too, but it’s not in the main part of town and would probably take more time than he has.

If he wants souvenirs, the area around the Astronomical Clock has a lot of nicer shops with stuff made by Czech artisans. Tons of good dessert and bakery places too.

Lots of good suggestions here. There’s also this:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s called the “Futura Gallery O.s.” and it’s a little bit off of the beaten path. More of a weird experience, than just an art gallery, but it’s free and very memorable. I wouldn’t miss out on some of the big stuff for it, but keep it in mind.

Also, if you like cocktails at all, go to Hemingway Bar. It’s crowded unless you go during strange hours, but so worth it. Really creative cocktails, great bartenders, and an awesome environment.

By the end of the conference I’m attending I’m going to want to pull some folk’s heads out of their asses.
