No, not the lunch. Lunch was delicious. I figured that, since I was this far from home I might as well consol myself with a good meal.

I drove for miles to go to a computer store that frequently advertises all sorts of old parts on CL nice and cheap. I looked at the pictures of the store and they have all the kind of obsolete junk I like, so I made the trek. I get there and the place is dark. The sign says that they’re open M-F 10-6, and I was there on Monday at 3. If they have a retail location with posted hours I would expect them to be open, but in this case there was no explanation. Had I known this I wouldn’t have bothered to make this drive and could have spsted myself the experience of dealing with STI douchebro on the way over.

At least I got a good lunch out of this drive, but now I have to drive to the other end of the county in rush hour traffic. Oh well...

WTF is Easter Monday? In my half century plus on this planet I’ve never heard of such a thing. Oh, and I didn’t get holiday pay for working yesterday...

I think those tacos look worth the drive.

Those tacos look good, but I don’t think they are Keto-diet friendly.

It’s like being back in SoCal. Such good food here.

When I worked around the corner from this place I was over here at least once a week, and it was the perfect place to go to let traffic thin out before the long slog home. But now my commute is only 2.3 miles and I never get out this way. It makes it that much more special, more of a treat. I have to control myself because if not I’d eat Barbacoa until I  exploded.

I understand what it is, but never have I ever encountered stores or offices being closed because of it. Frustrating.

I’m more of a carnitas person myself, but I’d take some barbacoa too.

Probably not, but I tend not to follow any particular die t plan. I still don’t understand the market for millions of diet books every year when it seems to be common sense - minimize the calories, eat plenty of fruits and veg, and get a reasonable amount of exercise. Not that I am particularly good at following this advice right now, but I have a doctor’s excuse.

Then there are people like my sister, who seems to jump on diet  trends regardless of the actual need for such a restriction. I asked her why she went gluten-free when nobody in her household has celiac disease, and she could not provide one concrete reason as to why. Whatever, sis...

I do love me some carnitas, usually making my own. One of those tacos was al pastor, so I’m making sure to get my RDA of pork products

What can't be made better with the addition of queso fresco and lard?

Frijoles de Olla can’t be made better.

I’d accept some interpretation of a cream of beans, which has -atop the beans and the cream- cubed panela cheese, fried tortilla scraps, chopped onions, and even some cubed bacon if you feel like really digging in.

or, if you feel relatively healthy, an Aztec soup.

Ye’, if the store is any sort of distance away, I always phone them up to double check if they are open and times.

Several times I've made reservations on an online handler for a restaurant cancelled by the restaurant because it wasn't open and they hadn't got in touch with the people handling the reservations. Or turned up at a shop to find they had changed their opening times and hadn't updated their website yet.

Me IRL right now at the mention of that dish.

Usually, at the end of this meal I scoop up the meat that fell out of the tacos and put it in the beans and pour some salsa verde on top and crumble up some tortilla chips on top, which sounds a lot like you were describing. But today there weren’t any leftover chips and I didn’t spill any meat...

Lol. Ye’, there is that.

I needed to make reservations at a couple of restaurants the other day. I thought about phoning, but I had a few requirements so I just went up in person rather than have a long drawn out conversation over the phone trying to get across what I was wanting and needing.

I once drove three towns away for breakfast. Apparently, this is not an uncommon thing for residents of California; especially, if you’ve ever seen the lines for brunch at places in Big Sur or Monterey.
