I dunno, that one looks fishy. I don’t think even a runaway battery would go up that fast.

I’m no expert but I’ve seen damaged or punctured batteries (on a much smaller scale) go up pretty quick like that Tesla.

But yeah I don’t think that just happened on it’s own.

oh yeah, an individual runaway (or punctured) cell can go “POP” pretty quickly, but for the entire pack to go from smoke to enormous flames in a few seconds?

Something, something..... Ferrari.

TBH almost reminds me of magnesium for some reason. I’m not very knowledgeable though

Yeah... I am also suspicious. The smoke was surprisingly symmetrical and seemed to have four distinct, staged sources. As you pointed out, high powered batteries are no joke and I don’t know enough about the Tesla battery layout to know if this is feasible.  One way or another I’m interested in seeing how this shakes out.

This is what happens when you leave your Galaxy Note 7 inside your Tesla.....

It is very symmetrical, but not that surprising if the failure was right in the middle, under the car. No draft in an underground parking lot, so the smoke would take the path of least resistance in all directions.

Oh I meant it seemed to have distinct sources, but of course however the batteries are packaged I’m sure there are vents, which sort of would explain this. Also I’m a little surprised any of the batteries are that far up? I’d figure they’d mostly be under the passenger cabin for crash protection reasons. (Looks up picture) Yeah, looks like there aren’t any batteries past the front wheels.  That sort of jives with where the smoke started coming out, but I’d expect the flames to be further back.

Kinja'd!!!

Totally 100% possible this is real, and I do love seeing bad things happening to Tesla, but I have a high level of skepticism on this one.

Shame Elon’s such a dick. In my heart, I really don’t want Tesla to fail, but the schadenfreude is strong whenever something like this comes out...

I was thinking of one of the attention seeking stunts where the owner (no doubt funded by graft) of a supposedly troublesome high end car takes a pickaxe to it.
