Allegedly someone who looked just like me might have doubled some speed limits the other day on a similar route.

Hahaha, EXACTLY.

Went up and down this road back in the early 90s in my ‘60 GMC school bu s home several times . Nice route with enough turnouts to keep the traffic from building up behind me. A bit above this is the Ma tol(sp?) Rd which is still Hwy 1 but gravel. Curvy, beautiful scenery.
I recall a single traffic light somewhere up there in the boonies for which we stopped... When it turned green we went on around the curves only t o find that half the road had brok en off and slid off into the sea. Instead of fixing the road, they just put a light on each side .

That happens a lot over here. I can think of at least 4 locations where they have either a light or a stop sign where half the road has fallen down the hillside.

If this was more of a Redding area thing, I'd be down. That's a weekend trip for me. But SF is kind of pushing that.

I’m very interested. Sucks that I can't make it though :/

Boooooo. :(

Filled out. I’m in SLO and have very little time to play with cars so I chose going south only because I’d have to drive 4 hours north to start and almost definitely can’t pull off anything longer than a Friday night -Sunday or Saturday-Monday event .

Very interested and filled out survey!

Mine would be more Central Cal in order to get the SoCal and Nor cal guys if possible but that will be a rally thing so a bit different.

The Bay area is not Norcal lol. There’s like another 5 or 6 hours to the border. But semantics aside, yeah I’m definitely interested depending on when it is. Looking forward to following the details on this.

What is it, then? I’d say 90+% of Californians consider the bay area to be NorCal. The NorCal/SoCal border seems to be around San Luis Obispo, in fact...

Oh man, this is a can of worms for debate, haha. I tend to agree that speaking purely geographically, Bay Area is central California. However, native Californians tend to refer to the regions by dominant population. So LA/SD is Southern California, SF/Sac is Norcal, and the bit in between (like San Luis Obispo County) is Central Coast.
I too think it’s stupid, but I kind of get it.

I’d just never consider it to be “N orth” and “South”, its way too generic. There is a definitive Southern, Central Coast, Bay Area, Northern along the coast. But then the inland areas are probably divided further but Ill just lump that into either Eastern or Western Sierra. And I would say it’s more culturally that makes those areas different than geography. Obviously, this is subjective. But yeah if its “only two” then of course the whole Bay area is Northern.

That makes sense, but it does leave out a bunch of the rest of the state that really doesnt fit into any of those categories. Either way, I read “norcal” meaning like up towards Eureka and the Oregon Border which is pretty far from the Bay Area. I am actually excited that this event is intended to just be the Bay Area since I can easily get there in 5 or 6 hours of driving.

I was like Norcal, I could make that in a pinch.
* sees map* WTF!
![]() 04/24/2019 at 15:45 |

exactly what i was thinking, except opposite for me since I am much closer to the Bay area and have driven there a few times without too much trouble in a day
