My jones for a manual transmission vehicle is growing ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). Wife isn’t into Miata, though I think I could work on her.

How bad are these early 2000's TT’s?

Pro - quattro, manual transmission, 1.8T with easy tuning from APR, small and relatively light

Con - Audi, Audi, Audi, silver

That CL one looks like fun.  What’s your wife’s objection to a Miata as opposed to this?

FWD. It’s an AWD Golf.

It’s a little more money, but I would look for a Fiesta ST instead if you’re okay with FWD (and let’s face it, the TT is FWD biased ).

Instead of that, you should buy my lowly Subaru instead. 2 door with a usable back seat. I am 6'1 and fit fine, once I get back there , awd, manual trans, 186k, much cheaper on everything compared to the Audi.... it may not look as nice, or have the same color on all the panels, or matched interior. But it drives and is fun.

Those seem overpriced to me. Plenty of TTs around for like $2,500. You could probably get an A4 for that amount.

That would be a hard no to me then. Not that it kinda wasn't already just based on the badge.

Her first response was “that is really small”. At the time I didn’t feel like pushing the question so I let it drop. I think she would see these differently, but I am getting the expected responses - nope.

In the end I think I'll be happier if I wait to find what I really want (80's BMW), but there just haven't been many in Houston in a while and I'm impatient.

Drive train and chassis is basically a Golf. Shares a number of suspension parts. Some of the bushings and mounts are stiffer, etc. Looks fun at $3800.

Yeah, they are also rough on maintenance items if the previous owner hasn’t kept up. The new TTR-S is a serious car with a much better AWD system but not this old one.

have you tried a newer miata with an Auto. when I rented one I was a bit disappointed , but after driving I was impressed with how it would take up/down shifts without asking.
