The whole thread is amazing:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The fundamental lack of understanding and lying about how mass transit works shown by this and the issues raised by his autonomous car (which actually aren’t) fleet ideas are staggering.

Seriously, fuck this guy, he’s a conman at this point.

I’m curious to see which of his business ventures pan out. What will be the most successful in ten years? Tesla as a brand has proven itself as far as desirability goes—and despite flaws—I don’t think any reasonable person would argue against their deserved dominance in an incredibly important emerging market , but... I haven’t heard much on the battery side of things for awhile. Then there’s space exploration , space mining, the transport industry, random “techy” things like the flamethrower....

I hope all this is still happening in a decade. Even if 50% of the ideas are rediculous and poorly thought-out, it is nice to see progress, and now more than ever we need someone like Elon Musk to keep interest up in science and technology. I volunteer in STEM course at a junior high, and in all the years I've been there I have never seen so many kids taking an interest because of what Elon has done. It may be flashy or gimmicky to us, but to the kids, seeing a car sent to space is huge, and is exactly what gets them interested in asking "what next"

SpaceX and Tesla minus Elon are really the best long term solution. The rest are non-starters.

He’s always been a con man. He’s a scam artist. He’s a rich spoiled racist piece of shit from South Africa.

He was fired from Paypal for being a complete idiot. He had no involvement in the idea, and his technical ‘contributions’ were demonstrations of just how low his IQ and how big his ego was.
He was fired from the place before that because he threw a tantrum about wanting to be CEO, and refused to work with anyone till they made him CEO. The investors fired his ass.
He didn’t fucking found Tesla. He wasn’t even a first round investor.
He isn’t a rocket scientist. He’s a retard scientist. He legitimately believed he could put something on Mars from his backyard, completely ignoring every government, using a decommissioned Russian ICBM, and that said ICBM would only cost $100k.

The only reason any of his ventures are around is because he has a cult of followers that can only under the most GENEROUS circumstances be called intellectually challenged. I have spoken with their ‘brilliant IT people’ and every last one of them could not cut it in the most junior sysadmin position there is in the real world. Any real business would fire them on day two when they pushed shit to production in the middle of the day with no dev, no QA, and no testing.

None of his ideas are original or special. They’re all shit stolen from other people or him trying to be an edgy memelord or prove he isn’t literally mentally retarded . (He is.) He doesn’t understand the basic physics of anything, he doesn’t understand business, and he sure as fuck doesn’t understand manufacturing.

Capacity was always going to be a huge issue for any real world implementation. Station loading/unloading is tricky, as is the problem of emergency stopping (unless you are willing to lose everyone “in flight”) if something goes wrong.

It would certainly be cool if these problems can be fixed, but we certainly shouldn’t be diverting scarce high-speed rail money to fund these projects until they’ve shown real-world promise.

It really wouldn’t be cool. It’s just the worlds most expensive underground  one lane highway, that regular cars can’t use.

I mean, the first tunnel already shares Telsa’s standards for build-quality:

You’re right. That is what I get for reading this when half asleep. I thought this was going on about one of the hyperloop proposals. The tunnels are just kind of dumb. I do think it feels like we should be able to do cheaper robotic tunneling, but even if you can do that, this seems like a poor use of the tech.
