I had my CHP appointment today and the officer was great. He knew his stuff inside and out. Things went super smooth. I celebrated with a trip up highway 1 since I had already crossed the Richmond Bridge anyways. The weather was perfect - high 60s to low 80s depending on the breeze. I did get a sweet sunburn. I managed to do myself a favor and stopped off at Point Reyes Station to buy some sunblock but the damage was done.
It was more of a cruise than anything - no real hard driving. That said, people were about 60% on using the turnouts. That’s way better than average and I suspect it has something to do with recognizing that this isn’t a normal car on their butt. The only real bad offender was a (surprise!) a Tesla driver doing 1st-gear speeds on Lucas Valley Rd. The truck between us was getting visibly angry and gesturing to use the turnouts but they refused until I used my Hella horns.
This makes me wonder: Tesla sells lots of cars in California - can they detect a faster vehicle from behind and have the car suggest using the turnout?
It seems to be becoming more and more common that I come up on Tesla drivers who give 0 shits about actual driving. They likely bought the car for the “self driving” (cough) because they’re somewhat uncomfortable with driving in the first place. On a road where they have to take over (like HWY 1 or Lucas Valley Rd), they are a serious liability.

It’s great to see the project nearly ready!
Is the car as quick as you had expected?

It’s better than I expected in terms of grip. It’s worlds stickier than my Miata. Unfortunately, it’s not as fast in a straight line as I’d like. It feels good from 20-60 but it’s not really fast-fast. I would estimate that it’s a 5.5 ish 0-60 in the hands of a really quick shift driver. It runs out of steam around 80mph so I’ll need a turbo eventually.

I feel like it’s rare things go smooth but I’ve never been though a VIN assignment for any vehicle, only plenty of verifications. Maybe I’m just being a pessimist... I did finally get my blueprints approved for my solar array today... only three trips :(

Congrats. Pending g you don’t try and pull something or show up with a shady build, inspectors will let a bit slide. A coworker had an mg convertible that he turned into a speedster, tha didnt have wipers “lets be honest, you aren’t going to be driving in the rain.”

Oh you came by where I live. You should take the Fairfax- Bolinas road sometime, also E. Ridgecrest that is attached to that route is a road they film things on it’s so pretty. Up north the roads like the Petaluma Marshall road are nice, there are several like that.

Oh nice - yeah I was totally in your neighborhood having been in Corte Madera. I’ve definitely got my favorite roads on my end of the bridge as well. The only thing that keeps me from doing more out by you (it’s not that far) is the stupid bridge and all the darn traffic. It also sucks that it’s $6 every time.

Well we can thank my wife for those, she negotiated with a guy in Japan for me because he didn’t speak English.

My friend lives in a secret little neighborhood in Richmond, when you get in there you have no idea you are in Richmond. He comes over here but we have to time the traffic depending on the day . The lane going back over to the East Bay is better now on the bridge right? So I’m told. My friend and I are in the same union, we work on shows, like the car show. W e don’t have regular days off, so we get a nice tuesday and there is no problem with the roads! I’m working on a 1952 M37 Dodge truck, it will carry my sailing kayaks and that will be going out to west Marin a lot. I put premium in the Z anyway, whats 6 bucks!

Today was awesome weather! I was getting burnt just eating lunch outside. Might as well pack your swim trunks next time.

Ah, Point Richmond. It’s great there. I live on the El Cerrito side so I guess there’s quite a bit of uh... Culture... Between us.
That’s a good non schedule . I’m not working at the moment so I’m trying to take advantage of that but until I start working again, I’ve got to keep every meaningful cent in my pocket.
Dang, that M37 should be cool.

Oh he isn’t in pt Richmond, he found a house a few years back that is in a neighborhood wedged between a huge train no man’s land and a park with a massive fence. So nobody goes back in there who doesn’t need to. His neighbors across the street are old veterans with guns too so they keep an eye out. Yeah the truck is pretty cool, there aren’t many around. I know a guy in the MVPA with one over past you but most other power wagons here are WWII collector WCs. The top comes off like a Jeep but it has a bed so it’s actually useful, I tell my wife that. It won't be done for a couple months.
