Or you didn’t see it and smacked your head.

D’oh! Been there done that!
BTW this wouldn’t happen to be a wall scrape job, would it? I’m having flashbacks.

My last house was like this, both in the attic and basement. I’m in a totally different house with totally different stairs, but I still duck.

Could have been worse.

Duct wrap.
There was a fire, the restoration crew won’t do asbestos, so we come in and get it.

I never hit it, at 5’6” I don’t hit much. I just noticed the notch.

I’m not y’all by any stretch, and my gf is about 5’3”. My friend just bought a house with a quasi basement and the stairwell is fairly steep but the overhang(?) going down is so close its more like being on a ladder but we both had to duck

That is structural magic that the floor hasn't collapsed

Oh joy !
Yeah, the stairs are reminding me of doing a series of apartments with basement leaks. Didn’t have to scrape all the ACM from the walls; just a few inches around the cracks (or sometimes rod holes) so that they could seal them back up . Anyway, e ach basement had stairs similar to that. Super annoying.

I'm more worried about the traps they didn't find

It’s only 2” n otched out of a 12” board. What could go wrong?
The shadow makes it look all the way cut, it’s not that bad.

You’re tall enough to not clear the stairs to my second floor. Well, going upstairs you’d be fine but going downstairs you’d have to duck.

Those walls look like my father’s basement. Does that plaster usually contain asbestos?

I dunno about “usually”; but often enough in older houses to warrant sending off a sample for testing.
