Here’s a box I couldn’t walk past. You know it’s not going to be good, but how could I stop myself from reviewing an alleged churro-inspired cereal?
Look at these things. Huge pieces. Many over a inch long and 5/16" diameter. Are these really for small children or grown losers like me? It must be the latter. My thought at f irst blush was, “I bet this is just Cinnamon Toast Crunch with a different shape.” Well, folks. Let me just so that that is 100% FALSE.
[Googles the word “false”]
Oh — did I say false? I meant true. My bad.
Now, I will say this: as a hollow tube, these absorbed milk significantly quicker than your standard CTC, because the milk penetrated the highly-processed membrane from the inside out. This is convenient for enthusiasts such of myself that don’t eat cereal, so as much as they just inhale it.
Usual hallmarks of the legendary CTC still apply: fixin’s jumped off each piece at the mere sight of milk. So being fully bathed? Fugetaboutit. Milk was grainy and tasted sharply of cinnamon. Not all that sweet. I feel this is a byproduct of the above paragraph. My theory being that these super-sponges leave very little residual milk, thus the flavor of said milk is a little too concentrated for my liking.
Truth be told, I like these much more than I thought I would. Quick to eat, didn’t hurt my teeth, and a stupid marketing ploy. Oh, the premium on the Churro box versus the price of original CTC at my local WinCo Foods™ ? How about... 60 %! I paid a $1.50 more for an effectively identical product. That’s how you know I’m a crafty consumer.
Thanks for reading.

Those look like the shits that normal cinnamon toast crunch would take if it ate too much of itself.

They do remind me of some kind of large rodent droppings.

You ever had a churro from Costco? They’re pretty good.

I use it to chase my giant slice of pepperoni. I am weak for the Costco fast food.

There’s 1/3 bag of that garage in my pantry. I was not into it. However Pop Tarts Cereal is amazing.*
*i have not tried the strawberry

I really enjoyed them. Felt like they hold up in milk a little longer than standard CTC. I attribute that to more density than the thin squares. I’ve been on a chocolate toast crunch kick lately. Surprisingly good.

When I was a kid, they used to have THESE:
Fucking. CRACK.

I am too. I wash my giant slice of cheese down with one of those sugar packed chocolate coffee slushies. Good for the soul, bad for the health.

unrelated: my parents have this exact thing in their house. i always remember seeing it as a kid, no idea where it came from.

We love the Churro cereal here. It's not for breakfast, but makes for a great snack or dessert for the kiddo.

Oh man. There has got to be a Grocery Outlet somewhere that still has those in stock. Please

They look delicious. If they taste like regular CTC, then I am sure I’d like them. My problem is that since my wife grew up in SoCal, apparently the only true source of “real” churros, I strongly suspect I would find myself divorced if I brought some of those home. :)

I remember that cereal. Damn good.

I think they’re pretty good, too. But, of the interesting new cereals that have come out recently, the one I recommend the most?
These. I rarely get the same cereal more than once within a 1-2 month period, but I’ve already gone through three boxes in the last few months. They are just THAT good!

Haven’t tried the Strawberry yet, either, but I can certainly agree on the Brown Sugar Cinnamon being really good.

Hmm. I didn’t like it very much and CTC is my favorite cereal.
It was ok, but not a repeat buy for me. I still ate the whole box of course.

Is it? I was shopping with my daughter last weekend. We saw these, and she vetoed them emphatically. So, I never tried them.

So the other day when I made that post about all the Teslas in the Costco parking lot I had just finished a pepperoni slice and churro.

My wife works with the food pantry at church. They get lots of stuff dumped from grocery stores and an entire palette of these came in recently. We pocketed a box so I’ll try them out tomorrow.
