55 years ago today, Lee Iacocca and his team introduced a car that would become an indelible icon of 20th Century Americana and usher in an ever-increasing proposition of (horse)power to the people . Happy birthday to all the ponies out there (especially mine).

The coolest part of the Mustang is the fact that it went on sale IMMEDIATELY after it was shown to the public and one or two examples got sold before it debuted.
Why can’t we do that now?

Huh. I always thought the Mustang was born on October 26, 1940.

I think the coolest part was that it came from the same era when making a sportier/more stylish vehicle on a pedestrian platform was an accepted business model. Along with offering multiple body styles for each series and choice of a la carte engines.
