Youngsters, gather round and meet Twiggy (née Leslie Hornby), an icon of 60s fashion if ever there was one.
By the time she appeared in this series of ads for BL, however (mid-70s) we were all mired in that downer period called the 70s, as the stupid “Clubman” facelift cooked up by former Ford managers clearly shows*. Note how the front bears more than a passing ressemblance to that of the Mk2 Cortina.
Twiggy would appear again in a Mini ad campaign for... Austin Rover... in the second half of the 80s, themed “You never forget your first Mini”.
(*) I know, I know: the Clubman went on sale in 1969. Ask your elders, however, and they’ll tell you that the long
summer of love
was over way before the end of the decade; for more info you can look up “Altamont concert”,
“Sharon Tate”. Or “My Lai”. Or “Chicago Democratic Convention”.
