Every reply you get to a post asking for help is one of three things:
Somebody asking a question the answer to which has been clearly stated in your post
Advice that would only help a complete moron such as “Are you sure the key is in the ‘on’ position?” Thanks I didn’t think of that /s
“theRE ArE OthER threaDs ON this tOPIC JusT SeaRCh for ThEm.” BITCH DON’T YOU THINK I TRIED THAT ALREADY BEFORE RESORTING TO MAKING A NEW POST? YOU THINK THIS IS MY FIRST DAY ON THE INTERNET OR SOMETHING?

It’s the internet. Everything sucks here ( except Oppo)

Especially Oppo. But it’s the endearing kind of suck.

Because people with opinions that don’t match mine are allowed to express those totally wrong opinions in public. Nobody needs that.

Opinions that aren’t m ine are the worst.

because so many car forums (especially brand- or genre-specific ones) are inhabited by one of two groups:
1) 15- to 22-year-old jagoffs who still think their woefully-naive opinions are ironclad fact, or
2) aging Boomers who think they’re the greatest generation of people this planet has ever seen, and anyone younger than them is a piece of s**t.

Your third point is especially annoying. I sometimes go onto a forum with a long history and many thousands of posts looking for an answer. I do a search first thing and then spend lots of time sifting through the hits because I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.
When I can’t find my answer, I feel like my post has to start out with that disclaimer or else someone will pop up telling me to search. Then I will have to scream.

I turn 30 this year and I am equally terrified of both who I was, and who I am probably destined to become.

Subaru forums are the ab-so-lute WORST. When I was looking into buying an Imprezza GT to replace my Dart, I went on the NAISOC forum to ask questions about maintenance and any known issues and got a lot of bullshit from the members.

Colorado forums is actually great. Helpful and give ideas.
S10 forums is like talking to a wall, but on the other side is all about how to LS swap , then they make 2 posts about their LS swap and never post again.

I don’t have an answer for you, but if you’re going to use 30 Rock as a reference at least do it right Double Hitler!

One of the things that bugs me is when people use words and phrases that they don’t understand.
“Help my car won’t start”
What’s it doing/not doing?
“The engine cranks but it won’t turn over”
Let that sink in a moment.
He didn’t say the starter cranks, he said the engine cranks. And that “it” won’t turn over. WTF is that supposed to mean? If the starter is turning the flywheel and cranking the engine, then what is it that’s not “turning over”?
Now it is entirely possible that the crankshaft itself has actually broken in two, such that the flywheel end is indeed “cranking”, while the rest of the crankshaft and pulleys are remaining stationary. Not very common, and probably not an accurate description of what’s happening either. B ut it is a valid, conceiva ble condition. And we are left having to go along with it because the thread author is too lazy to be more descriptive.
A ll too often it turns out that these guys are just throwing around terms like “turn over” as if it means “car running”, and the condition is actually a crank/no-start. It often takes several back-and-forth postings just to get everybody on the same page.

1) can’t help
2) sometimes the simplist thing is the answer.
https://oppositelock.kinja.com/100-internet-points-to-gmporschenut-1832215166
3 ) because most forum searchs are garbage, and it comes finding a needle of A B D symptoms , but not ACD, or BCD

The trans am forums are ok sometimes, except for the fact that it’s impossible to make a new account for some reason. they are also split between like 3 forums.

The big problem here is most people don’t bother and it gets very annoying having 100 of the same post.
I do get what you’re saying though. I usually alleviate this issue by stating up front t hat: A fter hours of searching the forum I’ve found nothing, so here goes!
That usually deters that comment as it tells people:
Y
es I have searched already, I found nothing helpful.

Every reply you get to a post asking for help is one of three things:
You forgot #4:
Instead of trying to answer your question or share the information you are seeking, they instead make assumptions about what you are trying to do and
question why you are trying to do what you are doing in the first place.

Or you get instructions completely unrelated to the problem at hand.

I gave up on the Range Rover forums. Every time I would post a remotely technical question it would be crickets followed by one of the senior guys being condescending AF and not really answering my question. Meanwhile there are no shortage of “what size tires should I mount with a 2" lift” posts SMDH.

Or you get instructions completely unrelated to the problem at hand.
Yes!
That, or instructions completely irrelevant to the model you have:
“I don’t know how that thing works on your 3rd generation model, but on my first generation one, it works like this.”
Maybe I posted in the 3rd gen. forum specifically because I know the procedure or hardware is completely different than the 1st gen!

I’ve had good and bad experienced on forums:
Transit Connect forum: All very helpful. The the worst I experienced was inquiring on the differences in Husky Liners vs. Weathertech floor liners. One individual answered: “ I use the regular carpeted mats and have no issues! Cheaper than weathertech too!”
Honda Ruckus forum/facebook group: Atrocious. Not helpful at all. I inquired on what first few modifications I should do to the stock GET engine, majority answered, “GY6 swap the engine.” When I bought my first few aftermarket pieces, I was roasted for not buying the right parts in order. “You should tune your variator before lowering the seat frame; any mechanical guy with a brain knows that.” I was fortunate enough to befriend the Ruckus guru of Detroit area, and will only go to him with any questions or help needed.
