!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I remember the good old days when cars like the Mini Cooper took like 5 to 7 years with a few fairly good lo oking iterations before becoming truly bulbous and ugly.
Good news is that it no longer looks terrible. Bad news is that it is still unpleasant to look at and continues to exist.

I hate car bloat so much. I remember how bloated we all thought the Challenger was when it first came out. I wish someone would do a photoshop taking 4-6 inches out of the sides of most modern cars.

The Challenger has thankfully reached peak length.....so they’re going wider. And wider.
Looking at current trends, I have no clue how far we will bloat before bloat becomes untenable lol

I drove by a Buick place a couple days ago and saw something called “Avenir” that was basically the size of the old Enclave. All I can guess is they’re just forcing these new models in and tweaking the old ones to create space for them.

I see this trend with other car makers too.
The Rogue bloated into a car with a whole third row. Then the Quashqai and Kicks filled the gap between a “full size” CUV (Rogue) and the Micra .

Looks okay. So the new Encore (aka Mokka) is leading more towards the Vauxhall Crossland.
Which is the midway between the Vauxhall Mokka and the Vauxhall Grandland.

Bloat?
1992 Caravan: 178 L x 72 W x 66-68 H, 3,432 lbs.
2019: 203 L x 79 W x 68 H, 4,483 lbs.
Only a little “bloat”

I don’t think all cars bloat at the same rate, which is good.
Minivans also tend to have fewer iterations for some reason.
Little irrellevant, b ut yikes! I didn’t realize there was a 1000lb difference between the two models.

Aye it finally debuted. I saw a camouflaged one a few months ago. Although it looks bigger, I wouldn’t complain compared to the egg shape disaster the current one is.

There’s almost a 400 lbs difference between the 1st and 2nd gens. The 3rd gen only gained about 100 lbs, but somehow wore it terribly. The 4th gen gained another 400 lbs ( 800 over the 1st gen ) and wore it even worse. The latest gen gained another 500-ish lbs ( about 1,400 over the 1st gen ) and feels every bit of a 4400 lb vehicle except the GT trim.
Here’s hoping they’ll make a lighter Caravan with a turbo 4/manual combo again!

The current one does suck. And this is better, like a mild stabbing is better than a fatal one.
Please know, I hold un reasonaly strong opinions about certain things. I do see how this version will gain many more customers.

Is that 1992 a Grand or not? (Worth comparing apples to apples, IIRC a non-grand has the third row against the rear window practically.)

For a 7 passenger minivan no less...

The Grand is 193" long, it gained about 4" between the 2nd/3rd row, and a good chunk behind the 3rd row. The non-grand (swb) has plenty of room behind the 3rd row and decent space between rows, the grand is just slightly more roomy overall.
So still 10" shorter in length than the modern van, 7" narrower, and still 800 lbs lighter.

Avenir is a trim package. Think Buick’s version of GMC’s Denali. What you saw was probably the new Enclave Avenir .

That’s over 2 feet longer! 6 inches wider.
That is a much bigger car.

I’m looking forward to the next economic collapse that should lead to cars getting smaller and cheaper for little while.
Think about it all other pieces of technology gets cheaper over time. Cars have only gotten more and more expensive way beyond just inflation. We need a bad economy to encourage simplification and downsizing.
That’s a positive spin on the inevitable doom we face.

Ahh, thanks. The last time I remember Buick doing a named trimline was the Electra Park Avenue, IIRC :D

The very interesting part is the new one seems to have very little “extra” room inside despite all its extra size.

The worst part is a national recession, as we’ve seen, hits the middle class the hardest.

SNG takes up floor space, but shouldn’t effect leg/shoulder/hip room, actually it should take up less room as the SNG seats are generally slimmer so they can fit in the floor.
Not sure if there’s any more hood length, but it’s doubtful.
