I flippin’ love this thing.

And the titanium headtube badge for being in the first 50 is all that much sweeter.

I’ve been riding the same Giant bike for 25 years. I’d be interested to ride a really expensive bike to see what the difference is like.

Even the difference between a high end bike 25 years ago, and an 800 dollar bike now is huuuge. I went from riding a top of the line late 90s Raleigh to a beginer  level 2018 Rocky Mountain and the newer bike is lighter, faster, more comfortable, and looks cooler too.

As HFV noted, mountain bike tech has come a yuuuuge way in not just the past 25 years, but even the past 5 years. It’s almost an entirely different machine and game alltogether.

I have a 10-mile route that I ride through my neighborhood, so there’s no dirt anywhere. Maybe I wouldn’t get such a good workout with a better bike!

I always laugh about seeing people training on their ultra-light aero carbon tri bikes. You should be training on your child’s walmart bike with a bag of bricks on your back!

I saw my doctor recently about some health issues (being in your 50s sucks in many ways), and he was worried about my heart. I told him that I had a stress test last year that I passed, but that I also get a stress test five days a week.

Gotta get going now.

Mines in the shop getting the fork rebuilt and new tires put on. I can’t wait to get out on it! I t should feel like a brand new bike

When I was preparing for my first big ride (MS-150), I was training on a 1976 Schwinn World Sport. The other bikes were mostly high-end aluminum or carbon frames with modern brifters. They were shocked that I had no trouble keeping up with them.

It’s not about the bike unless you’re in the top 1% of competitors.

Well; there is something to be said about specific training. If you are training for a 50-100 mile race; you want the aero position to feel like a second home.

But aero wheels or helmet on a training ride? GTFO.

What a beautiful bike. I am trying to get back into riding, more seriously a nd I was just able to get a quick ride in yesterday. The nice thing is I live less than a mile from some pretty legit trails.

I can only dream of owning such a high end bike someday, but for now   I am still  really happy with my second hand Craigslist bike.

The best bike is the one you own and can ride right now! Get out there and ride it!

Having said this... N+1.

Lol, that’s the truth. I can’t comment on training as I have never entered any bike races. However, w hen I am riding a bike to get somewhere I usually take my lightest most comfortable bike ... but when I am riding just for exercise I usually take my 40lb single speed b each klunker.

...and when I am feeling crazy I’ll take my 110lb chopper bicycl e... just not up any hills.

Trust me I am trying... I only almost died like twice yesterday.

The sad part is I used to be obsessed with bikes. I currently have something like 11 bikes at my house... for the 5 people who live there. And my wife and kids only have one each.

When I  was in Mexico earlier this year everyone rode full suspension mountain bikes with knobby tires up and down the boardwalk, while wearing full spandex looking like they were ready for the tour de France. Now that's a workout!
