There’s at least one more season, just no tent...

I teared up just seeing Jeremy emotional about it. It’s nice to see that these guys genuinely care about their work. I think that’s the biggest reason this trio has done so well for so long. They actually love what they do.

well then what the fuck was he crying for? Tent? They’ve trashed things a lot more valuable than that tent. What’s so special about that tent?
i’d tear up if I was forced to give this up due to... umm... size reduction by bloody Hammond

I think it was more the format he’ll miss than the tent. Since Jeremy has primarily handled the “host” duties of having an audience, doing interviews, etc, I think he sort of sees it as the end of an era for him. As much of a codger as he is, I think he actually genuinely enjoyed interacting with the studio audience.
That said, the specials and challenges were always some of the most popular episodes, so it’s not terribly surprising they’re switching to this format. It’ll help reduce cost and logistics, thus making Bezos even wealthier. I just hope they’ll still have a way to keep Abbie involved somehow, she was awesome.

This is his baby, and he’s getting rid of what to him is probably “most” of it. Even if what they’re keeping is the best part, it’s still essential putting to rest something he’s done seemingly forever. I don’t think it’s weird that it would be emotional for him.

There have been plenty of times in the specials/challenges where they’ve wanted to have a “control” driver, so they could certainly keep bringing her back for that. Logistically, it’s probably a lot easier to just sign whoever is available though.

I hadn’t really looked at that perspective but you’re exactly right. He’s always been the lead in the studio sections.

That was Richard’s dragster crash in the video montage, wasn’t it? I’ve never seen footage of it.

everyone has an opinion. Some of the stuff they did was interesting to some. Some didn’t care for it. I had less than zero interest in some of their documentaries on that “famous” racer and now Mondeo . Sure. It would be great and people could relate to it if that car was sold in all countries where they air the show. It’s the same issue with their celebrities interviews. Who knows who they are. I didn’t know most of their celebrities.
I don’t know if cosworth was actually sold in US, but I don’t see too many of them and don’t think there is a big following here in states.
If they are actually getting rid of the tent and will go around the world with shenanigans, I am all for it.

I was surprised that the Grand Tour was as UK focused as it was. I mean obviously they are British, as are many of their fans, but with Amazon giving them a global platform, it seems odd, and a bit provincial, to do some of the things they did.

Yep. The footage is of course out there, but I know they cut it from the Amazon version, and probably others.

For the Grand Tour and the later episodes of Top Gear, the audience and industry talk was the weakest part of it.
The best part of the 3 together has been their field trips across the World, which is going to continue on Amazon.
I will miss the track times segment however, but that’s about it.

It was a bit interesting to see which car was faster around the track, but I don’t know if that was interesting enough. I agree that their travels around the world was a lot more interesting
Their history channel bits, their celebrity interviews, track bits... meh. I could have lived without. But I understand. Traveling to friggin Mongolia and arranging crew and food and whatever must have been a logistics nightmare.

It's not just the tent, it's the studio format as a whole

For me, the road trips where they goof around in three cheap cars are entertaining, but it’s gotten a bit worn out. I very much liked breaking it up with the tent. If I could have asked for a change, it would be to mix in more audience stuff, including product reviews, short films, kind of like the diversity they had in Top Gear. Not the celebrity stuff. Who cares about that.

Yeah...you can only watch reviews of $1,485,482 super cars that you’ll never drive for so long before it’s boring. I liked the reviews of normal, attainable stuff.

I think t hey are still going to be doing that, even more so with regards to logistics and travel. Just not with a home station tent.
The first season they moved the tent around. The 2nd season they kept it in the UK because the trio had some physical issues that limited travel. The 3rd season they kept the tent, but I think Amazon realized it was a waste of time, especially since the majority of the show was them traveling and having escapes around the World.

I really liked Conversation Street, and I loved the News segments of Top Gear, and I really really liked some of the guests banter on the old show.
I loved all the ribs about pnuemonia and Richard Crashing and the fun silhouettes. I really did. The dual guest thing I couldn’t really care about, most of the guests weren’t particularly interesting. But the guests from the old show were phenomenal at times.
From TG:
Patrick Stewart going “Oh, this must be a terrible show, then” when told he was the most famous guest they’ve ever had.
“I went on the internet and I found this ::CROWD
GROANS
::
”
Michael McIntyre’s rant about the loser lane.
Great News! Again and again and again.
Alan Davies’ story about teasing Barry Manilow the car over with 3 of his mates
Jools Holland talking about “Would i connect my art to my music............ yeeaaaaaahhhh......”
Being unable to identify the Well Spoken Man
Amy MacDonald... talking, for 10 minutes. About anything.
All the F1 drivers and their burning rivalry in the Liana.
Jimmy Carr nearly destroying the Lacetti, and then laughing while he asks to drive the Aston
Jordan/Katie Price talking about her “Airbags”
This and a lot more I miss

The show hasn’t ended. They said so themselves. But the format with the track and the studio segment is kaput.
