In terms of cars, I’m pretty lucky. I have no financial investment in my vehicle at all. Maintenance, insurance, and even gas are courtesy of my parents. However, there are some things I have to pay for if I want or need them. This little guy (and its associated data charge) is one of those things.
It’s an Apple Watch Series 4 in Gold Aluminum with Cellular and the 44MM screen. It was an open box at Best Buy, and my local store was selling it for $386. Retail is $529, the original open box price was $439, and current Apple products are rarely on sale. I was able to get my 8+ 256GB for $750 (when the payments are done) instead of the retail $950 at this store. At the time, no where else was doing under $950 on those phones . This is the exact configuration I wanted. Yes, it was a lot, but it was a good deal. Definitely the right place and the right time. If y’all have any questions, please let me know!

I see a lot of people with these, but I’m still not sure what all they use them for. For someone like me who isn’t interested in biometrics, is there any reason to get one? Does it do things the average smart phone can’t?

You can use it without your phone. It’s a “Buddy” as I like to call it. Since this is a cellular model, I could leave my phone behind and rely on this. You can send text messages, make calls, and even sync it to Bluetooth to listen to music. It also gives you the notifications from your phone. Aside from that stuff, it’s like an advanced FitBit with exercise info, etc. There is a LifeAlert thing built in that calls 911 if you’ve fallen and don’t get up.

Despite being someone who wears a watch everyday, I don’t see the appeal of the smart watch. I want to be more removed from my phone, not to have an extension of it on my wrist.

I got this to be removed from the “non-essentials” (Instagram, Snapchat). Like, if someone needed my attention, they’d text or call me. Also, where’s E91M3?

It’s a much better fitness tracker than my phone. It allows me to see who’s calling, respond to text messages, and see weather alerts without pulling my phone out of my pocket. G ives me directions when I’m walking or driving.
The company where I contract relies heavily on two factor authentication when logging into many websites, and it is much more convenient to confirm via my watch instead of using my phone.
It is much more convenient to pay using my watch than my phone.
In general it takes several use cases where you can (mostly) use your phone and makes them more convenient. And then adds health features like calorie monitoring and afib detection and EKG.

That’s fair. I used to have snapchat, but I deleted it back in 2016 and refuse to re- download it. My problem with it is that people use it in lieu of actual conversation.
E91M3 sadly doesn’t exist as BMW never sold an M3 touring, E93M3 on the other hand.

Hmm..if I need another sim/data plan that it’s even a harder sell for me. Does seem beneficial for the elderly though. My dad was very good about carrying his cordless phone with him around the house or if he was outside ( walking to the mailbox, etc). As luck would have it when he had his stroke, was one of the few times he did n’t have it. He didn’t have the strength to crawl to a phone and laid on the floor for 2 days till we found him. Something like this might of been very helpful, assuming he w ould of remembered to keep it charged.

I love mine, it keeps me from dicking around with my phone for no reason. I can go running etc without my phone, its also a great motivator. Circle game on fleek!

I was goofing around haha. Snapchat is basically a text messaging app for me, but I open it and close it way too much...

I agree with your sentiment and never saw the appeal either until I received a gift one from work. It does allow you to disconnect from your phone in a different way. You can leave the phone in the other room to prevent you from aimlessly reading articles online every 5 minutes, while still being able to receive important calls and emails (if you desire.) I just upgraded to the 4 after breaking my model 0 in a dirt bike accident.

That’s a fair point, I guess it really all depends on how you use it.
