Bonus Jacarandas (hint: never park under):

Why, is it like the manchineel tree that can kill you 900 ways?

Well, Jacarandas sweat a sort of blackstrap that can really fuck up a car’s paint

Gotcha.
The manchineel makes me laugh because it’s cartoonishly deadly. It’s not enough for the fruit to be poisonous, no. The sap is corrosive, standing under it in a rainstorm can burn your skin, and the smoke from burning the wood will blind you.

Not as deadly, thankfully.

I know those trees as manzanilla, but regardless they’re no joke. We encountered them in Curacao, where despite having been warned about them by the Dutch Marine C orps some of our recon operators set up a hide si te in one. All of those guys went to the hospital within hours, and the guy who rubbed his eyes got flown home. It was the only time I experienced a recon team being taken down by the local flora.

I saw a YouTube video of some guy who shot a video of himself being rushed to a hospital after eating one. Who the hell just eats random fruit you find in a place you’ve never been before?

Just touching the bark or leaves will cause blistering. I can’t imagine what eating the fruit would do.
