Yep I’m bawling. Danget. Top Gear and the Grand Tour have been so much of my life. At 24, I’ve been alive for over 2/3 of it and it has been one of the main reasons I appreciate cars like I do. I’m glad there will be more with the three, but the absence of the show I’ve know for as long as I can remember is really hard.

I definitely think so. Even though he is supposed to be the don’t care guy, I think he is the one that has always cared the most.

Top Gear first aired in 1977 here in the U.K.

So myself being born in 1979, it’s been around all my life and I’ve seen it change so much.

The Clarkson Amazon Prime upheaval isn’t the first. Years ago the BBC were going to axe Top Gear so Clarkson, Needell, Henderson, etc... were going to move to Channel Five and start Fifth Gear, but the last moment the BBC retained Top Gear, Clarkson stayed but the others left and that’s the start of the Top Gear we’ve enjoyed of late with the new co- presenters of Hammond and May.

How it came about.

Top Gear Series 1, Episode 1 (feature of, ‘a girl in the news’) , 1977.

Series 11, episode 1, 1983.

Series 39, Episode 7, 1997.

I first binged Top Gear on Netflix as my wife was in labor with our first kid when I was 23 . I was only interested because I grew up tinkering with trucks and motorcycles. I t hought it was funny watching old rich guys play with things they couldn’t fix.

I don’t really know what to make of the goodbye. It was kind of a goodbye forever, but then an admission that they’re making more specials - which of had just been recapped in the goodbye. They hardly showed a bit of in-studio footage in the 17 year recap.

This sounds terrible, but I’m wondering which of them has been a given a bad health progn osis. It feels like the kind of thing you would do if you weren’t really sure about something like that. I hope that’s not the case, because seeing it soldi er on with 2/3 of the Beatles just wouldn’t feel right.

I watched Top Gear on repeat to distract myself when I was dealing with a bad breakup and other circumstances. Got a bit misty-eyed but glad that they’re not disappearing completely.

That said, I am shocked that they did the Mongolia episode at their age, and Clarkson in particular looks ... err ... fragile.

I’m not bothered, they essentially changed to a travel show for about half the season anyways.

That tent and audience thing always felt forced with the Grand Tour, I rather spend time with the 3 of them out there doing cool stuff.

I’ll miss the track times segment, but that’s about it.

Both shows are Jeremy’s babies. If you read the articles he writes for the London Times he shines a little light behind the curtain. He pours everything he has into the scripts and making sure they get a good product.

Yup. Did not expect that massive emotional gut punch. Fucking hell. I am not sure I have ever cried that hard.

And while I am happy they aren’t quite done yet, it simply will not be the same without the studio/tent and audience. Not having any new car reviews and laps takes away the foundation of their show. Their road trip specials are always fun, yes. But they feel special because the normal show is grounded in current events. Without that I am not sure they will hold an audience for much longer.

I fucking hate this time line. Can I get unplugged?
