So I know I have an exhaust leak in my y-pipe off the header, it’s driving me crazy. I t sounds like crap
I took it to 2 muffler shops today and they both said they can’t get a welder in the crack.
It’s right in the valley of the y as seen here (not mine). I was thinking of hitting it with all my wire wheels and using some kind of high temp putty in there for the time being until I can get around to replacing the entire exhaust system. Thoughts on brands or types or even if that type of repair works or not?

You got exhaust leak problems, I feel bad for you, son. I got 99 problems, but a y-pipe ain’t one.

I guess nobody does oxy/acetylene anymore. I’d think that would be a lot easier than trying to get a MIG/TIG in there. Just get it good and hot and go to town with the welding rod. Wouldn’t be pretty but it would work.
Guessing the only way to fix is “right” is to completely replace the Y-pipe, but you already knew that.

im only now just learning mig, and I don’t have a torch, though I have everything else I need to torch. Might practice. its stainless which complicates it a little.

You could brass braze that hole if you could get it clean enough. This is assuming the area stays below about 800 deg. F.

It does
seem
like you could fit a short stick in there.

Pull it off and drive it over to my place, I'm sure we could weld it if it's off the truck.

I’ve had an exhaust leak on the 4Runner since sometime last autumn and I’ve been avoiding it. There are holes everywhere, but this one sounds like it’s on the y-pipe or up towards the driver-side cat . I’m afraid to take it in...
