Just over heard a coworker saying that. Considering they are about to pull up stakes in American, and how few I see on the road or in used lots, I don’t think thats going to be a problem.

Almost every time I see a newer Mitsubishi I think to myself “who in the fuck is still buying Mitsubishi s ?”

they clearly are clueless, Mitsubishis are great!

People with bad credit, poor taste, or “need” a new car but can only afford a Mirage.

Question is...would they apply that same logic to Renault (or Alpine) and Nissan (and by extension, Infiniti) given they are all part of the same glorious canoe? And yes I know that Americans can’t have Renault or Alpine but you wouldn’t appreciate them anyway...

Pulling up stakes, eh? You sure about that?

In the US, Mitsubishis are for people who can’t afford a Hyundai and don’t want a Dodge Journey (which is itself a Mitsubishi under the skin), a Chevy Spark , or a Nissan Versa.

That’s basically it. Though I’ve actually seen a few reviews that were fairly positive about the Outlander PHEV.

I see a fair amount of new Outlanders around. I think it is the new car of choice for the Calvinist Presbyterians. They are cheap and don’t believe in birth
control,
s
o they need the cheap 7 seater.

In the U.K. Mitsubishis are mostly seen in Shogun and L200 forms.

Here in the U.K. they are very much an also ran. With very few Mirages, ASXs, Outlanders and Shogun Sports on the roads , but the Shoguns and L200s make up for it, as they are very common on the roads here.

That made me laugh out loud! Good thing I do that fairly often so the office mates are used to my random outbursts.

Honestly I don’t keep up to date on Mitsubishi, I just know they’ve been having a tough go of it for a while. Also, they sold NEGATIVE THREE Lancers in January. But then again that’s a sedan and nobody buys them anymore. So maybe a bit of a red herring.
That’s actually some good news, I guess, for people that like Mitsubishis. Maybe there’s hope yet Joe could have that opportunity to buy another one, if only they could win his heart back.

Sure, but they stopped making the Lancer in 2017, so that’s kind of a BS sensationalism story there.
They have the world’s best selling PHEV SUV. In truth, I think they’re poised for a huge comeback story. We may not like it, but the CUV market is driving everything.

Mitsubishi started phasing out sedans well before Ford did. Other than the Mirage (fleet sales) I do believe they have gone full crossover and are doing decent now.

Funny thing is the Mirage actually has a higher MSRP than the Accent and Rio (when comparing autos as the Rio is auto only) and those two aren’t exactly known for tight credit. The Versa is cheaper too, and again Nissan loans aren’t known to be hard to require great credit scores either... I think the real-world transaction prices of the Mirage are lower though.

You imply that there’s logic in the first place.

I’m not even sure if they’re still successful in fleet sales. I’ve driven ONE Mirage (and about 25 Versas) since they came out. I haven’t seen one on an Enterprise lot since.

You might be right. I didn’t realize their CUV sales were so strong.

Whereas the US lineup consists of the Mirage and some mediocre crossovers (Outlander Sport/RVR, Eclipse Cross, and Outlander (including the PHEV, finally)).
Which, AFAICT, the main reason to buy one of the crossovers is either your credit check failed on the one you really wanted, or you’re buying an Outlander PHEV (which I hear is actually good) .
The Mirage... it’s by
far
the most efficient pure ICE car on the US market while also being one of the cheapest, so it has a market that isn
’t just people who failed a credit check on something better, but not much of one.

Super low budget rentals buy a lot of them. I rented one once for work. It was AWFUL! Brakes were inadequate, suspension was soggy and swayed like a boat, no cruise for a long drive, and lacked basic audio features that would have helped. It was the only vehicle they had on the lot at the time though. I feel like it would be a pretty great commuter car with the manual trans, some stiffer springs and dampers, and a small brake upgrade (sticky pads would do it.)
Honestly, I’d rather go with an IA though. Maybe the new Yaris hatch if they offer a manual option.

I see the outlander sports everywhere. I’ve seen quite a few eclipses too. They look like modern Aztecs if you see them out of the corner of your eye.

I assume everyone is logical unless they demonstrate otherwise...and I don’t know your colleague at all! Though he/ she/ it clearly purchased a Mitsubishi so I can probably make some assumptions...
