Procrastination has ended. I’m not concerned about the bill, better to be under rather than over unless you’re getting fined. My effective tax rate is down about half a percent from last year, I’m mainly paying more because my investment income was higher. I am annoyed that TurboTax charges a $25 for online MA state filing, so I’m digging through my stuff for stamps and a check to avoid paying that.

“better to be under rather than over unless you’re getting fined” only holds true if you are good with your money. It implies that you’d invest it, or at least you’d have it if you needed it in an emergency. But if you are bad with your money (*raises hand high*), it might be better to let the government hold onto that money for a while so you don’t spend it on a pinball machine.

True enough. For me anyway there’s no crisis over coming up with a quick $2000, but you’re right that if you’ve spent that money (frivolously or otherwise), it could be a nasty surprise.

It’s just one of those things that sometimes irks me because it’s often said like “everybody knows that doing it this way is better for everyone,” when there are a lot of implications that go into it.

I have had to pay many years in the past, and eventually I got better at setting aside some money to pay that tax bill, but personally I’d rather just get accustomed living off of smaller paychecks and then getting a nice refund after the holidays.

Waltham, on the west side of Boston. My Grandfather lived in Falmouth, so I used to get down to your neck of the woods often enough, but he passed away in 2009, and I don’t think I’ve actually made it out to the C ape/Vine yard since 2010.

I know Waltham. There’s a cool import auto shop up there. Last time I was there they had a Fulvia out front. A1 Auto Upholstery. Right next door to the Aston dealership

After doing some digging and seeing the difference between filing “ 0" and filing “3-4" ( less than $5/week ) , I decided it wasn’t worth it to have to pay in and enjoy a great return every year, which results in “play/invest/saving” money.

Actually in order to make any significant difference in my “take home” pay, I had to file something around “90" for deductions, and even then it amounted to roughly $20/week.
