So much here that is amazing! Choice of angles, choice of color enhancement; great use of all that stunning light.
I have to scramble but hope to be back later to ask tons of questions about time of day of shots & & choice of lenses & how you got access to that upper balcony and other stuff :-)
spectacular:
This one ^^ looks like Captain America’s plane :D

Nice to see they got the flying boat out on the floor. It was in the restoration hangar when I was there half a decade ago.
Not much in the way of pictures for me though, someone had stolen my phone charger out of my car the day before, and it ran out of power after I took a single shot of the SR-71 .
Lots of interesting stuff at U dvar H azy, even if it is perhaps a bit uncurated.

So they have a Komet out. I really want to get a tour of the Garber facility. I saw an article and the unrestored stuff laying around was nuts. Is the Horten out somewhere?

The Horten was there and somehow I didn’t get any pics with my dslr, but I know I took a few film shots of it.

The Udvar-Hazy Center is such an extraordinary place. Last time I was there I only had a couple of hours. I could spend a day or two in there.

Plan on taking several days to see everything if you intend on reading at all. I believe the covered exhibit space now exceeds 1 million square feet.

I had 5 hours to walk around before the film started. I spent at least an hour just staring at Discovery. More time is definitely needed.

These photos are absolutely stunning. I love the tight shots of the engines and that chrome and black tip tank. Amazing.
But , I just can’t believe that I did not know about this museum. I have been to the Smithsonian Air and S pace M useum on the Mall in DC but I didn’t even know abou t this one. And w hat makes it even worse is that I basically just drove past it twice when I traveled to, and from PA for work last month.
Hopefully I can find the time to drive up there sometime soon but if nothing else if I have to make that trip again next year I will definitely make a point to take a detour this time.

This isn’t just a museum of things, but of those things that did that you read about in books. The SR-71 in the pictur e? That’s the one that crossed the US in 68 minutes . Every plane in there has history attached beyond just being an example of something. Langleys aerodrome is in there. Reno champion racers are in there. German WW2 planes and even their prototypes are in there and are one of a kind so if you see a Do-335 pfeil in there, it’s the only one left in the world. It is also a working restoration site where you can actually see what they’ re working on at any given time. Some things in there are new from what I was last in a few years back. The twin engine flying boat for example was definitely not there.
Plan 3+ hours and wear good walking shoes for concrete. There’s a McDonalds there and a sizeable gift shop. The van will take you from the IAD Dulles airport to the museum for a dollar, or two maybe.
