I dropped my Mustang off at the body shop on Monday morning to fix my little dent.
Of course I got a rental car, but it didn’t quite go the way I thought it should. I was of course expecting something like a Nissan Altima, but that didn’t even happen.
The guy at Enterprise was funny.
“What do you think about trucks?”
“I hate them with a fiery passion, why?”
“How about SUVs?”
“I’m not a fan.”
“I’m looking to see what we have for you. I don’t have anything comparable to a Mustang...”
“How about a nice anonymous sedan? Thought that’s what I would end up with.”
We went outside and looked. He had a lot full of trucks and SUVs.
“How about a nice small SUV?”
“Sure, it seems like tha
t’s all you have.”
So I ended up with this:
It’s not small...
V6 with less power than I’m used to. Sits too tall. no backup camera...

I pictured you going on a journey...
...one that is more entertaining, enlightening, relaxing and just plain fun than the rest of your week will be.

Well, you are wagon guy and this is basically a taller full-size 1970's station wagon without all the technology or quality...

I did tell a co-worker that I thought this thing would be OK if only it had about a 4" suspension drop to make it a wagon...

I learned two things, one both eibach and h&r make lowering springs for the dodge journey. Two there’s a dodge journey forum. https://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/topic/10175-hr-springs-installed/
Only about a 2" drop though.

You should have gotten a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Yes, it actually is smaller. At some point I need to take a picture of mine parked next to the Rav4. It’s like ... 2 inches longer.

That seems like about the worst outcome possible. Those might be the worst modern* car I’ve driven. I just don’t know why people keep buying them. The 2007 car they're derived from was one of the worst cars of its time, and it’s not like it got better with age.

One thing that I’ve learned is that there exists a forum for every niche interest no matter now niche .
Japanese albino mouse hair quilting? Forum
Pre-vi ctorian tea set collecting? Forum
Bunch of hooptie loving car nerds? OPPO

Wow no backup camera, it must be a 2017?
I’d take a Journey V6 any d ay over something like a Versa or Sentra. Really the only thing that annoys me is how there’s absolutely zero steering feel.

It’s a 2018. Still no backup camera, though I see that there is a kit from Mopar to do it to the factory radio.

I keep looking at it and wondering the same thing, why would anyone actually purchase this thing?

I should try to swing by the Enterprise lot and see if they have something else available. He did tell me I could trade this off if it bothered me too much. Honestly I’m just trying to not drive it unless I have to.

2" drop doesn’t even take enough out of the fender gap to make it worthwhile.

If a car is so bad you avoid driving it, it’s time for a different car, yeah.

One of the times I dropped off my Mustang for service at Ford (I don’t even remember what for now) they did the whole “I don’t have a Mustang but...” game for my loaner. They let me pick ANYTHING they had, but the options were just a Fiesta or an Excursion.
I took the Excursion because I thought it’d be fun to experience something so wildly different from a Mustang for the one day I would have it. And it was, except when they called and said they needed another day for the Mustang I wasn’t too happy about the added gas cost of the Excursion...
