I hate to say it, but having seen quite a few IRL now, I really like it.Especially in the more basic trims.
It takes the CH-R’s style an turns it down. And I think that’s a good thing.

Haven’t been paying attention. What's under the hood? They got an SS yet?

It’s a handsome vehicle, but calling it a Blazer still hurts a little due to the history of that name.
However the same could have been said for the Explorer and it turned out well for that.

“I really like it”
bad.

My main issue with it is that it shares some of the Camaro’s interior design, specifically the big round vents . I don’t care for it in the Camaro and I don’t care for it in the Blazer.

But those wheels are straight trash.
They do look a lot better in person, I can dig it.

The standard model comes with a 2.5 I4 and there is a RS version with the 3.6 V6.

Definitely look better in person. Not proud of it though.

h istory of that name
The Blazer was a mall crawler for longer than it was a “real SUV”. The fact that it is now a tall Malibu wagon doesn’t bother me in the least.

Thanks, I hate it.

Especially in the more basic trims.
I think that is true in general. Less crap to break.

I like it from every angle but this one:
The rear is just so bland compared to the rest of the car. And the big hump in the middle of the hatch is awkward.

Are they like this vent in my Mazda 3? I
love
these vents. Unlike almost every other vent in existence, this one will probably never break and is infinitely, continuously adjustable.

I just wish the RS came with a set of flappy paddles. I’ll probably think about one once they start seeing some incentives (
in line with what the equinox gets)
, but as of right now they are WAY over priced.

Robust platform though, with the 4.3L and all of its injector problems and intake manifold gasket leaks and such. And the transmissions weren’t the greatest, but still: a good Chevy will run crappily far longer than many other cars will run at all.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 16:07 |

Not really. I mean, they’re round like that but what you show looks like a normal vent. Chevy likes this:

There was some good Blazers too. It’s like saying I don’t care about the Impala name because of some of their late model offerings.

Yeah and those S10 models were complete shit boxes. And how many people buying a brand new $40,000 car are taking it offroad? Jeep has the market cornered on that.

Oic.
For some reason these came to mind:
Looks fast.

That is awful. Truly awful. And way less functional nor directional than what I posted. If I want a gasper, I’ll fly on an airplane.

Looks like it was already hit from behind by a bro-dozer.

Oh man I like those vents! The vents actually aren’t new at all, theyve been on the Sonic since launch in 2012
What’s unique to the Camaro/Blazer is actually the knob, which is the knurled ring around the vent. They work really well, and remove knobs from the dashboard without losing the easy knob functionality.

But it’s the same formula as the original Explorer : take your compact truck, add a second set of doors, and enclose the cargo area. Ninety percent of buyers didn’t need or want the capability that carried over with the truck chassis, so it’s successor, the Equinox, was a crossover. Ford even followed suit with a crossover Explorer in 2011.
Now that the Equinox has been demoted to the compact class and Chevy has brought the Blazer name back to their midsize crossover, everyone is acting like it’s the equivalent of Jeep replacing the Wrangler with a Dart-based crossover when it’s nothing like that at all. This is exactly what the Blazer would have already been if Chevy hadn’t dropped the name in 2004.

The vents in the Mazda 3 and the ford mustang are the same. I had an inception moment the last time I had a mustang rental car. I was like hey this is just like my mazda, is this a good thing?

i think it looks best in the RS trim with the black 21 inch wheels but thats just me
![]() 04/05/2019 at 17:05 |

I like the way Audi did it. Less flashy (no red chrome plastic trim) and the digital face looks pretty cool.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 17:16 |

And they’re more integrated. The way Chevy does it seems to put the vents in to a pod separate from other parts of the dash. Other trim levels don’t have the red accents and it helps but I still don’t think it’s all that attractive.

I think they're freaking hideous.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 18:32 |

I don’t dispute any of that. All I’m saying is that the particular platform, whatever they called it, was robust and dependable and, it’s worth noting, drove well. The Ranger, on the other hand, while being dependable and robust, was a miserable vehicle to drive. Absolutely miserable.
Whatever crap they’re foisting on us nowadays, who knows? Eco-fart engines, whatever.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 18:34 |

From the perspective of the vents, yes.

Nameplates that used to be body-on-frame SUVs but are now unibody: Explorer, Blazer, Pathfinder, Passport, Durango, Discovery, Sportage, Sorrento, Range Rover, Aviator

Quite a few cars use them, even outside of the Ford/Mazda family, back when they were family.

I think the idea from the get go was “Camaro CUV” look at the most recent Camaro and this and there is definitely some cohesive design themes.
As for the vents I think they look all right, Altho I prefer center vents over the controls not under them. They look like what happens when you add an AC unit to an older car. Like these this kit for a Beetle. Looks tacked on.
I especially don’t like that placement because that’s a really good spot for a cubby.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 22:09 |

What’s under the hood?
Meh. Nothing more. It’s a FWD chassis too so no Trailblazer style 6.0 SS either. It definitely fits into the “looks faster than it is category.

That’s a downer.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 23:54 |

I am growing more fond of it as well. My only hang up is that it isn't RWD based or even better, Alpha platform based like the Camaro. A poor man's X5 would actually be a sweet car.

I have a feeling that was the plan, but at some point it got canned by the bean counters.
