This has not been a great week. I was home today recovering from having a tooth extracted yesterday. Took the wagon to the junkyard as the Fit’s axle is broken.
While out a bolt fell off a truck in front of me and hit the wagon, smashing the brand new windshield and chipping the paint.
I was able to follow the truck until it stopped and talked to both t he driver and the owner of the company. He is going to pay for a new windshield, and we agreed on a fair amount for the paint chip. I also got their insurance info in case he doesn’t follow through.
Where the bolt fell out. When i told the driver something fell off he walked right to this, apparently the bolt was replaced yesterday.
On the plus side, the new axle came in a day early and 20 min of work got the Fit up and running again

Yeah. I was expecting an argument , but the owner seemed to just consider it a cost of doing business.

Better off than the 2 times that a big rock hit the Fit. First time it was the windshield next time it was the driver’s side fender. Both times it was an uncovered dump truck headed in the opposite direction.
The windshield was like 450 bucks because it’s so damn big, and the rock chip hasn’t been taken car of, I just coated it in rust converter, it’s still black and hasn’t effected the paint around it yet.

Damn, that’s much too close. A little higher speeds and that could have been a deadly projectile. Awesome that they are doing the right thing. Somebody didn’t tighten it properly and they are about to get chewed out!

I’ve replaced far too many windshields due to flying debris. The best one was a board that flew off a truck and hit my xB, broke the windshield scratched the windshield post and snapped the passenger mirror off. Guy ducked over two lanes and took an exit before I could even react.

The fact that he knew where it likely came from tells me this isn’t the first time this has happened - I bet someone later on was informed they were paying for your windshield.
