Like the old Silverado, it does not have cruise control(which is bull.) Unlike the old Silverado, it has no center console storage or XM. They went through the trouble to give it a large touch screen, but they couldn’t give it XM or spend the $5 to give it cruise? That really is unacceptable(we drive 45-50k a year in these trucks .) The 4.3, even though it is completely different, still sounds fantastically awful. At least in this it will get out of it’s own way.
On top of that, and being hideous, it’s not awful. It drives better than the 2018 Ram we have(though that is a significantly better truck), and the mirrors are absolutely fantastic, a strong departure from the 2008.
Another note, it gets 4mpg worse than our V6 Ram. Chevy, you cheap bastards, at least give it the 8 speed. Hopefully tomorrow I will get to drive our Colorado that we replaced our 2009 Silverado with.
Looks like I got a V8 at the right time.

I forget, what do you do again?

We had an F250 without cruise
control and frequently drove it from one end of montana to the other. What a fucking joke. Leg cramps, foot cramps, maybe even using a brick to keep the pedal down.

Groundwater testing and cleanup.

wow, really? until three years ago, i’d never owned a car with cruise control. the LX has it but I rarely use it unless the highway is dead flat.

There isn’t much traffic or many police, right? Pedal to the floor the whole way! That is basically cruise control haha

Ugh, no cruise control? That sucks! GM tends to stick that in a package with tilt wheel and a few other things, and usually charges over a grand for that, so I’m not terribly surprised a fleet truck doesn’t have it. That makes it suck no less.
I’m curious about the new 4.3 V6. On paper it looks roughly equivalent in power and torque to my 4.8 V8. Which is to say, slow as dog shit, but gets the job done.
I was hoping the styling of the new Silverado would grow on me, but no. Looking at them makes me angry. They went from a fantastic looking truck, to a hideous over-wrought lump of shit. Whoever is in charge of their styling needs to be fired at least a year ago. Ed Welburn left, and the whole place fell to shit.

I find it fairly inconceivable that auto manufacturers still make vehicles without cruise control theses days. Both my 1988 AMC Eagle and 1984 (Eighty-FOUR!) Dodge Rampage (Manual!!!) have cruise.

The new also base Colorado has CC, so it’s super inconsistent. It’s like they are trying to make the truck worse.

It has a tilt wheel, which only goes high enough to only cover half of the top gauges. The 4.3 isn’t bad, but it needs the 8-speed. It’s absolutely inexcusable that it doesn’t have it, not even FCA is a that cheap.

That being said, I prefer the 4.8, because V8 noises and no direct injection.

It’s very nice for driving long distances. You can take up a hobby and master it
while driving from Missoula to billings.

Generally i don’t go over 85 in Montana that is kind of the cut off between being noticed by the highway patrol and being ignored
.

Gotcha. I feel like the 5 in CA’s valley is like that. Speed limit is 70, but if you are going less than 80 your are going to get run off the road. The traffic on the road is crazy haha

Is it drive by wire?
![]() 04/04/2019 at 18:04 |

I’m sure it is. In the old one’s they were, because a stalk or steering wheel swap was all it took to add cruise.

My 4. 8 doesn’t make much in the way of cool noises, but it has never missed a beat. All I've done to it is replace the belt tensioner around 100k miles, and plugs and wires at 80k miles.

It’s software. The cost would have been even less than $5 a vehicle, probably like $0.25. XM at least requires a receiver which is a few dollars. Not including cruise is just screwing with you.

The 297k mile 08 was a 4.8, and it sounded substantially better.

$5 included the buttons for cruise.

If company truck why did your company not spend the money for CC huh? Cheap bastards. /sarcasm
This is why people are starting to complain about the truck market imo.

Lol. Our base Ram has cruise and keyless entry.

Frankly there is some merit to my comment because it obviously is worth while for GM to exclude CC in base models. If even the cheapest fleet buyer pays for those items like CC then GM won’t bother excluding it for the 100 trucks they will sell per year without it.

At that point I almost feel like GM is just saying, "Screw you for buying the lowest trim level."
![]() 04/04/2019 at 21:18 |

“Screw you largest market! Let’s make the truck less usable because fleets don’t buy high trims!”

J udging by the exterior alone it seems that Ram or Ford have planted a few people in GM’s design department to sabotage the Silverado.

I’ve heard it said: “A Chevy will run like crap longer than many other vehicles will run at all.”
