The guy told me I could have anything in lot 3. There were a bunch of white and silver Sentras, and then there was this.

Which do you think I chose?

I laughed out loud when I saw it. The hertz guy had no idea why I was so tickled, of course.

It’s been a good little car.

I assume you were upset that there were no Versas available?

You bet I was. I looked and looked. This was the next best.

If I’m without kids, Juke for sure.

A while back I made the mistake of renting a Juke to haul my family to Disneyland. Most useless rear seat of a 4/5-door car I’ve ever experienced.

Our luggage ended up on the front seat because it wouldn’t fit in the cargo area.

Peppy little cute-ute  though.

LGA seems like a strange place to rent a car. If you are going into the city, you don’t need one (and probably shouldn’t want one) . If you are going to Long Island, you’d probably be better off flying into JFK. Maybe for Westchester or something?

Oh a good car. Very good car. AWD? I know it’s garentied to be CVT, so I won’t bother asking. The CVT kills how good the engine is.

Was alone, and so it was fine. The hertz guy was about 6’ though and rode in the back. He didn’t seem squished.

But car seat and associated  stuff would fill up that car fast.

Bridgeport. I try to get closer by flying to White Plains, but that rarely works out. Did it through Hartford a couple of times. That’s a very different drive, as you can imagine.

The engine sounded like a nest of killer bees, but it gave me what I needed when I punched it in the Merritt Parkway.

The interior was all plastic fantastic, but it was surprisingly quiet at speed.

The only thing I disliked was no place to rest my right arm.

Not AWD, but I didn’t miss it.

Down by your left knee there is switch to toggle The AWD. There is FWD, AWD, AWD-V (torque vectoring). The armrest was an option, mine did not have one originally. I got one when I bought mine.

My chassis is worse handling of the two. FWD chassis has a twist beam, AWD chassis has IRS.

Huh, I didn’t notice that. I would have tried it if I had.  Maybe I’ll get another chance some day.

Hmm, yeah I probably would have expected Hartford to be easier for that. Or maybe even Newark and take the train, though that’s a bit slow thanks to the wonders of American passenger rail.

Hartford is a pleasant drive, but sooo long. I’ve only been through Newark once or twice. The schedule never seems to make it worth it.

Yeah, I guess Hartford itself isn’t that far, but the airport being well north of the city extends things more than is optimal.

Bridgeport is southern CT, so the drive is 55 miles. But if the weather is nice, it goes though some pleasant New England countryside. When I drive into NY, I always have that ominous feeling of entering into Moria or something.

One of my favorite rentals have been when I just the fun looking one that I didnt know anything about. That was how I ended up renting a VW Beetle and ended up learning it was basically a girly GTI because it had a turbo and was quite nice. That thing was certainly the fastest “normal” rental that I have ever gotten from the cheapo aisle in Dallas.

Yeah it all depends on where you are coming from. Rental cars at Newark are generally better and the roads are a little better. But you have to pay the bridge (tappan zee or whatever its called now) which is certainly inconvenient.

The Juke trunk (as well as most CUVs) is hilariously useless. Having more cargo space in my Miata is just pathetic.

As a former Juke owner, I can confirm this, the cargo "space" is laughable unless you fold the rear seats down.  Fuel economy was pretty bad too (for such a small car), I think I averaged around 23mpg over 40k miles.  My Jetta (1.4t 5mt) is at about 37mpg over 30k miles.

I take the Whitestone Bridge in to NY, but the toll has gone all camera now. Now more stopping. So there’s that.

The Beetles are good when there is no mustang available haha

And they are the Manliest of vehicles. It takes a lot of balls to have a bright green one (with a flower!) and a miata at the same time lololol

I just checked my Fuelly account, it was actually a 25.1MPG average over 47,346 miles... that combined with the small tank and needing premium fuel made for a lot of trips to the gas station. My Jetta gets substantially better mileage and has a bigger tank... no matter how hard I flog the Jetta it’s getting AT LEAST 35MPG, and usually better.
