Went for the Falken ZE914s in the end, mostly due the type of driving I do, and the road conditions around here.

Also, a set (£260/€300/$340) was only half the value of the car, as opposed to the full value that a set of AD08Rs would be.

The trip home and a quick detour over my local ‘shakedown’ road confirmed it was a good choice. Unsurprisingly they were a lot more confidence inspiring that the five year old Rikens that we re developing Tumours. The weather today has been dreadful, so a good opportunity to test the wet grip, which seems great, and stable through standing water.

Steering feel is good, and overall the car feels more composed. I’m sure that they aren’t as good as a more extreme for the ultimate in dry grip, but living almost in Wales the actual real world performance is fine by me.

Nice. The weather is supposed to be cold next week but I’m looking forward to more summery weather to get more cars done.

The car is only worth €600? Seems cheap at the price.

I paid £475 for it, it’s not a good example. Decent ones are about £1500 for the early ones, with the later models about twice that.

Man, MR2s get pissy when you wait too long to give them a good thrashing.

Kinja'd!!!

Or maybe I just needed a good thrashing. Either way, I need to find more gravel/dirt roads. Rallying is fun.

There’s a few local roads that could pass as gravel stage. The downside is the potholes...

I’ve done a grass autotest in mine- great fun but not very competitive. The local motorclub runs an occasional targa rally that I’m hoping to make this year.

It does help when you’ve got access to some fields.

... I might need a new front tyre. Future rallying is on hold.
