I know it’s not news by any means, but I’m currently mad about it again. Star Wars the last Jedi was quite “a steaming pile of wasted potential”
This review of The Force Awakens made me feel that again. It really is a great movie, lovingly crafted and well thought out. The only things that TLJ got right was Rey’s parents being unimportant and Luke dieing at the end. He, like Han needed to die. Anyway here’s a clever movie review but a Youtuber that I like a lot. His Baby Driver review is AMAZING.
That quote was from me.

Nothing is wrong with TLJ that wasn’t also wrong with Empire. I will die on this hill .

To each their own. I really liked The Last Jedi.

The Last Jedi is a master class in how not to structure emotional and narrative story archs.
Few, if any, people left the movie realizing the emotional climax even happened. Darkness rises, light to meet it, Rey and the kids have Force powers because the Force chose them, the downtrodden, to counter the Dark.
Narrative climax: Luke and Rey learn new tricks, and Rose wants to sacrifice cannon fodder to get with Finn.
If the vast majority of people leave your film without catching the emotional climax, you failed.

Bleh, no hero’s journey or in this case heroine’s journey for Rey. She’s adept at pretty much everything she tries and hardly suffers any consequences fo r her actions.
Hence no relating to the character.

It’s your hill to die on, alone. Sorry.

I kinda liked it on the first watch. It doesn’t stand up to further scrutiny

You Know it had good things about it. It also had a lot of stupid junk.
It’s jot that it was bad, i just think it could have been a lot better, Under the care of a better writer.

I don’t think that there was a lot of stupid junk, and after multiple viewings I still think it holds up.
I'm really excited to see what they do next.

Your optimism is refreshing.

I still have a hard time accepting the new Star Wars movies as canon. Doesn’t mean that I hate them tho ugh. It’s just that they feel like well-funded pieces of fan fiction.
TFA especially so. It checks all the boxes so meticulously that it comes off feeling artificial to me. I appreciate what they accomplished, but I just can’t get into it like I could with the older films.

That makes sense. It’s like if Hollywood listens to me and rebooted Fast and the Furious. New younger cast, with human relationships, and human limitations, and a focus on car culture.
It could be great, but it wouldn’t be the original.

I’m with you, man. I’ve watched TFA and TLJ a bunch, and they’re great movies! I don’t know what all the fuss is about, truly.

Oh, and they all drive electric vehicles! Imagine the tension of watching the range drop!

I had some kind of a climax...

Have you watched the first Star Wars movie recently?

Finally watched it a few weeks ago. Was expecting the worse based on reviews like this, thought it was decent. TFA I thought was fun, if basically the same thing as Episode IV. TLJ was a different story at least, with some fun and cool parts. I’d watch it again, don’t really get all the hate for it.
And Rouge One is a hell of a war movie. Liked it more the 2nd viewing.

I love Rouge One, that’s the one I can’t understand the hate for. Ive heard people complain that every one last but like, they had to.

So basically the “we’r low on fuel” thing from TLJ.
ThT “chase should have ended like every other like it in Star Wars, the smaller ship gets scooped up i to the big bad one.
