Tax on gas is officially going up 10.5 cents per gallon to pay for our roads. Immediate response is to get angry but as long as the money actually goes to the roads (A giant IF), it will only cost me $60-$70 extra a year on gas for this bad boy. Truly if I couldn’t afford that, I shouldn’t have bought the car in the first place. I’ve already soaked up the $.60 per gallon for premium, so I suppose $.11 shouldn’t bother me.

I’m the bright side, we’re getting rid of the front plate requirement. I didn’t run one for most of my time owning the first FoST and instructed the dealer not to drill the bumper for this one, so all is well and good with me on that.

In Oregon you can positively GUARANTEE any new tax will never go towards its intended purpose.

Ohio is finally getting rid of the front plate?!  Way to bury the lede.  That’s excellent.  Being a former Ohioan, now a Michigander, i can be happy for you guys down there.  That gas tax won’t be a big deal.  You’re right though, assuming the money goes into the roads and not other budgets, it should be a good deal.  Michigan is looking at bumping taxes too.

We had ours go up 20 cents in CA after voters got swindled. Not sure what gas is where you are, but it's currently about $3.60/gal for regular here. It's $1.20 less in most of the country.

Sooooo hype for that front plate. I haven’t run a plate on a couple of my cars for years, never been bothered but is in the back of my mind

Gas tax was needed, we hadn't raised it in like 15 years and we were the one of the lowest in the nation

This gas tax hike is partly what drove me to the i3, but mostly away from the Montero. It gets 14 mpg, which means it’ll cost a lot more than yours would per year.

Unfortunately, that 10.5 cents a gallon is not the end of it. The current projections are in that same time for gas to rise 20-30 cents on average throughout the year. Another 40 cents per gallon on the Montero would raise my gasoline bill over $400 a year. Ouch....

But no front plates, I like that a lot.  Unfortunately, the i3 already has the mount.

Gas has gone up a bunch here because of taxes, too. People aren’t happy, but hey, that’s life.

I JUST put my front plate on last week. When does the rule go into affect? No bi ggity, just two holes drilled into my bumper. Might just keep it there now.

And thankfully I’m riding distance to work. With gas shooting up, my Ruckus becomes a better investment every day.

No front license plate?!? Yaaaaaaay!!!!! Mine is soooo trashed glad I won’t have to show it. About he gas tax though. If it was a temporary tax levee to restore the roads I would be down for it, but a blanket permanent gas tax increase is ridiculous and just another way for them to take more of our money and put it into  to who knows who’s pockets.

You guys are getting expensive out there. Gas is about $3.22/gallon  here for 87...

NOW we have no fronts, great. PO of my Golf drilled right into it. There isn’t even a real spot for it, so it just kinda hangs.

Read the fine print again.

One, it’s only going up $0.105 initally. It’ll be up by $0.489 in 2020. SURPRISE!

Two, it absolutely is not going to roads. Not a goddamn penny of the increase. Because they rewrote the rules so that the roads will only get a guaranteed amount (lower than the amount they got before) and anything over that? Goes into a bunch of personal piggybanks before finally trickling down to the “general fund” aka the big piggybank.

I support the gas tax increase.

The $200/yr EV tax, and the $100/yr PHEV tax, OTOH... only way to get me to support those is if there’s at least a $1/gal carbon tax on gasoline (and $1.13/gal on diesel).

They should raise the gas tax by a two dollars a gallon, pump that money into railways and try to get this country's public transportation system in some kind of working order.

A $0.10 is really only keeping up with inflation. This tax was last raised in 2005, so generates considerably less revenue in real dollars than it did then. Add to that the fact that newer cars use less gas per mile driven, and they are probably still underfunded (which is part of why the governor wanted an 18 cent raise).

Do you have a source for that? I haven’t seen a single outlet reporting that. The governor wanted more, but legislature wouldn’t give it to him.

I only caught part of it, but it sounds like they’re raising the budget for the public transport in OH

Most of my time in Ohio was spent swerving to avoid potholes in an IS-F.

HEY WOAH WOAH WAIT WHAT

Last I heard the original proposal had the additional tax and removed the front plates, that passed the house but the senate dropped the tax and removed the plates thing, I am under the assumption that they are no longer removing that requirement? Did it come back?

Huh, it’s about 2.50-2.60 here. Historically the west coast was always a lot more (1-1.25+) it doesn’t bother me too much as it’s not gonna kill me financially. If anything it’s more motivation to get my 65 mpg ninja 250 back together.

I... would pay an extra 10 cents a gallon to remove all my front license plates. Will have to look it up, any idea when it takes effect? Knowing government, probably no time soon.

Tax is July of this year, plates are July of next (odd, but not surprising the revenue is coming first)

I’ve been running no front plate on this bright ass red ST for 14 months no issues, so I’m not super affected I suppose, although now it just means there is no worry at all as opposed to “fuck it, if it happens I’ll pay up”

I was pretty upset when I heard it was 18 cents a gallon commuting back and forth to Columbus everyday from our location means we will pay more than the average joe. 10.5 cents seems like a good compromise.

I am very happy we are removing the front plate, not that I would have ever put it on anyway...
