Sure they’re great Grand Tourers but cost a minimum of $100K new. So my question is what is the best affordable Grand Tourer today? (say roughly limit <$50K new, or<$30K used). They’re typically front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement but let’s open up the options a little so include sedans as well.
My vote- Lexus Rc350
Quiet, smooth good V6, comfortable and refined, you can do multiple cross country trips and nothing will fail. Shortcomings will be the touchpad infotainment system, small truck 10 Cuft. Sportier faster alternatives are available, obviously .

Any V8 Dodge Challenger really. lots of interior and trunk space and plenty of power

Good one. Built the most luxury and comfort oriented 5.7 Hemi Challenger for under $46 K with leather, all the tech and safety features+ Hk audio and sunroof

(Note: used they’re in the upper 20s though probably not the coach version yet)

Depending on mileage, you can get a reasonably new Sierra Denali for less than 30k. You’re going to have to shop because that’s the price they seem to be trading. However, I was surprised at the interior quality and the long wheelbase will dampen hitting a crater.

This!
Hell even the top model V6s have more than enough grunt for a GT.

I said let’s open up the options a little but doesn’t mean pickups LOL.

MKZ is about the right size and not a land-barge , plus it’s a sleeper with the 3.0T AWD 400 HP, 400 Lb ft torque, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds.

GT in the name itself of course. Speaking of which...

N ever driven one, so donno if it is a cross-country GT car . I’ve heard it gets 30MPG on the highway though.

I like your style, but I’d add the classic package. Those classic II wheels look sharp on the Challenger. I wish you could get those on all trims

2014-2016 MB E550 Coupe (koo-PAY!)
400hp 4.7l twin-turbo V8, 443 torques @ 1600rpm
You can find a CPO for under $30k now.

I’m not going to offer up used suggestions since I could prattle on forever with big old
luxury coupes. But for under $50k new? I’d say the C-Class coupe.

Did somebody say coupe?!
If Infiniti could get their shit together, my real answer would be the Q60.

Edited to add that you can find them CPO for $30k, which I think would be wise. You can find them much lower otherwise. Personally I’d go for a 2014 sedan. Sleeper city.

The Stingray is pretty GT-able. The main problem is the road noise, ride comfort in Eco is pretty good. Depends on how aggressively sporty the tires are, oem Michelin PSS is decent for a sport tire. You'd want the optional MagneRide on the Stingray and then swap to more cushy tires. It can be done.

That does look nice, and $1295 so not too bad

Well then. A Cadillac XTS. Can be found out of rental fleets even with the V6. Heated and cooled seats, a good exhaust note and buttery ride.

Base C7 Corvette. They are running up to about 10K off MSRP right now.

I second this. You can pick up base Corvette’s for mid 40's.

I’d do the F8 and white RT stripe though. T’each their own.

An d how much is an LS500? New? used?
![]() 04/03/2019 at 11:28 |

New to newish: Chevy SS or Dodge Charger. The SS was comfortable in its only trim and when you got up there in trims the Charger was a nice place to be.
Used: C63 AMG (W204) , God those things are a thing of Beauty. Used with no miles is just under $30k
![]() 04/03/2019 at 11:32 |

(Thought it said 100k. Whoops. I did find one at Merc with 15k miles for $66k though.)

Chrysler 300C as well. More quieter than the Charger, can be had with perforated leather, cooled and heated seats and heated steering wheel, rear heated seats and with the 5.7 V8 will eat up highway miles and sound good. Some models even have heated/cooled cupholders!

Maserati Cambicorsa? This one is about 25k.
I’ve driven one across the country and back. Smooth and comfortable. Didn’t miss a beat.

I did not know that and that is a cool feature . I am just not a fan of the styling though I do understand why people step up to the 300.

B8.5 S5. Reliable with the 3.0T, and easy enough to find at $30k or less.

Base C7 Corvette. Lazy V8, great handling, reasonably comfortable, plenty of storage in the hatch.
![]() 04/03/2019 at 12:12 |

Also the correct number of doors. Stop being fooled by the Germans, a 4 door isn’t a GT.
![]() 04/03/2019 at 12:24 |

Under 30k, 6-speed manual OR a very nice DSG, plenty of room, comfy seats, smooth suspension, great handling, adequate power. In terms of touring per dollar, all hail the GTI.
![]() 04/03/2019 at 12:29 |

I just did a build & price for how I’d do it... White, R/T 5.7, 6-speed, cloth seats and the only options are the $495 heated seats/steering wheel and the $495 “wheels that aren’t shitty black wheels” package.
$36,530

the best grand tourer

If the point of a GT car is to look good while doing it, give me an XK.

The question is, what exactly is “grand touring”?
![]() 04/03/2019 at 12:55 |

Porsche 924.
Not a fast or powerful car, but my old one would sit at 90 all day long. Find one that isn’t a pile like mine was and they’re great little cars.
