Reminder to self: just a couple of e ggshells at a time down the disposal, not the full dozen...

Honestly, ask any adjuster or plumber, those things are bad news for homeowners.

That must’ve been one hell of an omelette

Garbage disposals or eggs?

Egg shells down the disposal is just a bad idea in general. The membranes expand in water which can cause all kinds of problems.

Like COFL says, plumbers love garbage disposals. They guarantee lots of service calls.

Hash Browns as the base, eggs, cheese and sausage in the middle. Now I don't have to cook breakfast for the rest of the week.

Plumbers love service calls. They get to bill you just for showing up at the door, and garbage disposals guarantee lots of service calls.

Seriously, never use your garbage disposal.

I’ve been doing this for years and until today I’ve never had any problems. But today was too many, too quickly, and I paid the price. At least I'm handy enough around the house to fix my own f#%* ups.

Disposal. It’s cash money for people like me.

The only time I’ve had issues with a disposal is when somebody has tried to put potato peels down them , and that only ta kes a few minutes to clean out.

Sounds fantastic.

I was reading an article once, and it was a bunch of different professionals, giving one piece of advice to the general public. The plumber’s was simple: “Never use your garbage disposal.”
I’ve taken it to heart. We use ours only when small bits of food from cleaning off dishes (after they’ve been cleaned off well into the trashcan) build up enough to prevent water from flowing freely. I’m guessing maybe once every couple weeks we run it just for a second to clean it out.

I was about to post the same thing. My mother-in-law clogged ours by peeling the potatoes into the sink, then trying to send it all down the disposal.
Fortunately, I’m fairly handy with a pipe wrench.

Maybe that’s why I’ve never had an issue, I have always thought that plate scrapings and small things like that were what disposals were for. I’ve never used them for a large amount of food . That’s what the garbage is there for.

When I was dating my wife I was at her house when her daughter tried putting potato peels down the disposal. They both got all upset and were ready to call a plumber. That night I was a hero. Like the man says, if women don’t find you handsome they should at least find you handy.

It seems like some people dispose of ALL of their food waste this way...

The job that cemented the deal!
I had one of those. For me, it was replacing the alternator on my future-wife’s car, saving her dad a 6 hour (one-way) drive. When I finally met her parents, he shook my hand and said thank you. My wife says that was the first time he had ever spoken to or shaken the hand of someone she was dating . That’s when she knew I was the one. :)

I made a scratch version of that for Christmas morning. I get home from church at about 1 am, turn it on, and we’ve got hot breakfast waiting when the kids get up. My kids refused to eat it. Might have been the hash browns. But those are really easy to make from scratch, but still not as easy as dumping out a bag of ingredients.

I’ve never made one of these before, and mostly bought this seasoning packet for the recipe (it was found in the clearance section at the store). In the future I’ll just use spices I have around the house since it’s just a simple matter of dumping a few things into slow cooker, things I usually already have laying around.
