N-Body Malibu. I’m surprised it runs.

I see these often in Indiana. They are quite crusty.

Aside from the transmissions, hateful interior, and numerous tiny cheap-to-fix but annoying problems, these things will run almost forever. You see quite a few where the rust doesn’t get them.

Isn’t there a saying that GM products are the cars that will run the longest at their worst?

O ur neighbor’s mother has a silver one just like that except no rear spoiler - had it since new. It’s dinged up and sounds pretty ratty , but she only drives is between her senior living place, the grocery store and her son’s place.

I see these several times a day. They were the go-to cheap car for BHPH lots before the Koreans took over that honor.

Earlier today I saw a Malibu one generation newer than this one that was absolutely pristine. That’s a miracle around Chicago, I presume it was retiree owned.

It is amazing how many you still see in metro Detroit, clinging to life and arthritic.

I presume it was retiree owned.

Judging by that old-style Ontario plate, I’m assuming this one is too. That plate dates back to at least the mid-80s. When my family arrived in the 1990, plates already started with K, this one starts with E.

I think the only way those survive is in the hands of a retiree that drives 3k miles per year, keeps it in the garage, and says yes to all maintenance recommendations.

These are still everywhere in the south.

They are everywhere   in NM. I assume most of them were stolen somewhere else and ended up here.

Heck just about all of the generation after that one (7th gen ‘08-12) that I see are completely trashed. There is one in the lot at work with completely peeled/faded paint, totally rusted steel wheels, yellow head lights, green window tint, dented body panels  and a broken windshield.  Pretty rough for a car 10 years old at the most - and every single one that generation is almost as bad.
