[Congrats to MM54 for catching it! See the comments]
I need to tighten my lug nuts post-autocross, but I can’t find the jack points on the internet. I have a low-profile floor jack and jackstands:
And I can’t confirm where the safe points are, for both myself and the car. Any Oppos know where I could figure this out?

Oil pan and muffler. (front and back, obviously)
Thank me when you’re done!

Toyota usually p
uts them in the middle of the axles, halfway between each set of wheels

Have or can download an owners manual? They usually include it.

Hah.
But those are both at the back of the car...

Oh fuck. I forgot. #fail.

Oof. My floor jack can’t reach the front one safely. Back K-frame should be okay but the front crossmember is too low for me to move the jack lever.

If you can use some plywood or polyurethane to spread the load , anywhere along the frame rail pinch welds is usually ok (factory/OE jack point). They’re not always ideal, but they should work.
Disclaimer, etc.

Get a Harbor Freight jack. They usually
have a very low reach, down to 2.5 inches for some of them!

Found this diagram from here for whatever that is worth. Doesn’t mention which gen though, so probably useless.
Seems likes it is a topic that’s discussed on some MR2 forums so maybe check some of them out as well?

Do you have some boards of wood that you can drive the front wheels onto? That’s what I usually do when I need the extra height for the floor jack on my friends ‘17 WRX.

The jack fits under there just fine, it’s just that I can’t actuate the lever at that angle because the front bumper gets in the way :/

Been digging through forums all afternoon to no avail. I think it’s gotta be the crossmembers between the wheels but my jack isn’t long enough to reach.

The HF jack solves that problem
, too. You will be able to actuate the lever just fine. The base is really long and low, and the handle is also very low, too.

Is it weird that this was exactly what I was going to say?

Pinchwelds and rear crossmember is what I always lifted mine from

Why do you need to jack up the car to tighten the
lug nuts?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 18:05 |

I'm curious about this too
![]() 04/01/2019 at 18:08 |

Right? If I have my car on a jack and try to tighten, I worry I’ll push too hard and tip the jack. Not likely to happen, but like, no reason to tighten in the air. Being that this car is RWD and I assume the parking brake is on the rear wheels, wouldn’t the fronts just spin if not on the ground?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 18:11 |

That’ll make it even more fun when you remove the front wheelnuts
![]() 04/01/2019 at 18:20 |

Yeah there’s no reason to try to torque lug nuts without the car on the ground. Best case you’ll have the fronts spinning while you try to tighten them and the rears depending on the parking brake / being in
gear. I suspect we may be being april fool’ed.

I've got that jack. It won't fit under the Miata with summer tires on :/

My MR2 has more ground clearance than many “Sports-Utility-Vehicles” on sale today. *Glances at Tesla Model Y*
Slap some portal axles on your Miata and the problem will be solved! :D

“Jacking points”? Is that what the proper name for the rust holes in front of my
rear arches is?

Wow, an actually good April Fools thing on the internet! Nicely done.
