That’s a hell of a lot of clear coat damage for a Camry that’s less than a year old. Is this something I could even compound and polish out?

That will buff grind right out.

I’m guessing a drive through automatic car wash did that. I think it needs a professional polish/buff/seal. It would take forever to fix this by hand.

It’s sparkly!

The swirl marks? Yeah, we’ve already had a talk about her not using automatic car washes. I’m mostly concerned about the really rough patches.
You’re probably right about having to have it done professionally.

It’s not my car, but it still makes me sad, since it’s such a gorgeous color.

It’s my girlfriend’s car, but I don’t even know how she managed that. At first I thought it was just dried bird poop, but nope.

It’s soo Swirly..
There’s only one way to tell if correction will fix it.. I wouldn’t be surprised
to see it come out with a bit of M83. M105 if you need to on those rough spots..

Sparkly!
If it ends up needing a respray:

Hell. Yes.

Will probably need wet sanding then multi stage polishing, is impressive damage for a year old car!

S wirls happen, but that clear coat coming up like that is bad - only a year old you say? Might be worth talking to Toyota about...

That can be polished out quite easily.
It's not caused any clear one failure, it's just ghosting in the clear one. A good Polish would make short shift of these.

You’re a saint. I’ll certainly give it a good try before going to a professional.

It’s partly bird poop. It’s ghosting from where bird poop has started etching into the clearcote.
Polish and then a wax or sealant will do it, the wax/sealant will act as a sacrificial layer from bird poop.

Do it sooner than later for sure..

Use straight lines rather than circular ones. Go forward and back a few tines, then left and right, then forward and back. Wipe off polish residue to check it's gone, but expect to repeat.

Uh, if that’s the color I’m pretty sure it is (Galactic Aqua Mica ,) it may actually be de-lamination between the base and the clear.
Toyota just ate about a $2000 respray on a Corolla for that .
